Film Summary CXVI (Starcrash)

Caroline Munro breast and David Hasselhoff hair star in a space adventure. They must help Emperor Christopher Plummer to destroy the evil weapons of a different Empire from a evil count. Why does a count have an Empire, why hasn't he promoted himself to a higher position? Hell if I know.

There's a strange robot man who's supposed to be a substitute for Darth Vader and he has the voice of a southern gentleman (more of a southern hick) with the personality of the Cowardly Lion.
Space is very colourful in this movie and I consider that to be a very good thing. I don't like doll looking space movies. I mean come on you're in a fantasy setting get some colour and have some fun with it, don't tell me that it's supposed to be scientific, you've got squiggly looking glip glops aliens all over the place. Spaceships that make laser noises, it's fantasy just accept the fact and move on.

Somebody watched a lot of Star Wars and Jason and the Argonauts because this movie ribs both of them off quite a bit. So the ships artificial intelligence is literally a giant brain that's some cheap science fiction crap out of the fifties, but with none of that 1950s American fun.

It seems I just can't get into these science fiction movies much anymore. With the exceptions of those fun nineteen-fifties invasion of the giant spider movies or the Godzilla films, those still hold a lot of fun. But watching a bunch of people in space shooting laser beam at each other just doesn't have much excitement anymore. I think I'm going to stick to my hard-hitting dramas, crime thrillers and stories about romance within the royal families of the world, there just seems to be so much more entertainment to be had from them.
