I have many interests and many hobbies, but only three loves.
The first is world history particularly the Vatican and Holy Roman Empire that once belonged to; alongside the step-plans of Eurasia and all the surrounding territory connected to it.
The second is Biblical history a fascinating and daunting endeavor that to this day still goes well over my head. My love of History intermingles with this one quite a bit and vice versa.
The third is Nero Wolfe a detective series created by a Rex Stout
and one of my favorite genres. If detective stories were a pyramid Nero Wolfe would be placed right at the top, even above such great detectives as: Sherlock Holmes, Philip Marlowe, Joe Friday and yes even the great Columbo (and that's a mighty big thing coming for me as it's pretty damn hard to get better than Columbo).
Anyways on to the actual story. Nero Wolfe is an armchair Detective, he doesn't go out and search for Clues, he doesn't even like to speak to most the witnesses or suspects in a case. He's more content with good food*, good drinking and a love for orchids alongside being a will read man. He is cunning, prudish and very full of himself; he's a lot like Sherlock Holmes, if Sherlock Holmes had no desire to ever leave this house and cared more about the maintenance of flowers then actual detective work.
That's where his assistant Archie Goodwin comes into play, he could probably make a halfway decent detective himself. Really it's Archie Goodwin who is the real protagonist of these stories he's the man you spend most time with and he's the narrator and all the books.
Nero Wolf is played by Thayer David ''you may know him from the Rocky movie'' he played the character of George Jergens which was Rocky's fight promoter,
he does a pretty good job of portraying Wolf's charator, giving him the proper mannerism. he's by no means William Conrad but few people are.
This particular film revolves around the story ''The Ringing Doorbell'' which involves the FBI harassing a woman, who was publishing a book about their Shady dealings and possible connection to a murder. Which also gets connected to a story involving Inspector Cramer**.
*You better believe that Foods in important thing to Nero Wolfe they are real life cookbooks dedicated to this man, one of which has a scrambled egg recipe that takes 40 minutes of preparation (not for the faint of heart)
**Oh inspector Cramer head of the NYPD homicide division, who often gets entangled in Nero Wolfe's various murder cases (much to his own dismay)
No poster for this one sadly as this is a made-for-tv movie and stay ''All in the Family'' design
