Keanu Reeves is Siddhartha in what is one of his better and earlier rolls.
A surprisingly well made accurate telling of the life of Siddhartha, showing he's infant birth to the day when he reaches enlightenment and becomes the Buddha.
The main story is of a small boy who was sought after by Tibetan Monks who believe him to be the reincarnation of one of their elder lama. The story of shown through various flashback the Buddha going through his trial and tribulations which reflect with the modern day small American boy in the city of Seattle who is shown to go through his own tribulation.
That's a great deal of story and atmosphere to this movie along with the nominal use of color rather that be the blue overtone of Seattle or the orange betrayal of India.
This movie walks a tightrope it has a child star and child actors are usually not very good in most films, But this kid is pretty decent, he is by no means perfect, but he never becomes annoying.
part of that is thanks to the pacing and in with the intermixing scenes of Keanu Reeves who does a phenomenal job.
he's able to betray a great spectrum of emotion
and give you a great view into the psyche of Siddhartha.
