Who is more brutal than a German more cunning than an oriental more sophisticated then a Brit and arguably even more romantic then a Mediterranean Frenchman? The Cossack!
Not the modern-day Cossack who is identified as little more than an evolved Russian attempting to elevate them-selfs to that of Ukrainian... No, I speak of the old tribal Folk with their sabers and horses who spread throughout all the steppe plans. Fighting Mongolians, Turks, Tetars and becoming renowned as some of greatest soldiers in all Eurasia.
Zaroff is one such man, a former Russian count, very wealthy, very prestigious apparently enjoyed hunting quite a bit. That is before the days of the Bolsheviks anarchism and destruction of the former government. Now Zaroff lives on an island based within the Caribbean, waiting for unsuspecting ships to run amok on the shore.
If the passengers and crew survive they are welcomed into the Counts home, guaranteed safety and shelter unaware of his ultimate goal; ''To hunt the most dangerous game''
One of the men and unfortunate enough to be cast upon the shore is Bob Rainsford (Joel McCrea). he's a big game hunter, one of those real man's men.
If he was older he would have served on President Roosevelt's Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War.
But as it is he's a wealthy American who goes around hunting big game animals now on an island with Zaroff where he has become the hunted. He also ends up running into Eve Trowbridge (Fay Wray) another stranded person from a different boat, who's biggest desire is to get off the island and away from the twisted Cossack known as Zaroff.
At the end of the day there can only be one Nimrod
One has to feel sorry for Fay Wray, she goes through a traumatizing experience, almost getting killed, and only barely getting away from the island and then a year later going a different Island only to be victimized by a giant monkey, she really can't win.
