Proof that they can make an investigator movie out of anything, in this case the investigator for weights and measures. James Cagney plays a by-the-book honest man, he never takes, me never commits crimes and always does his job to the best of his ability. But what happens when 90% of the system is against him and his best partner was a bumbling Irishman.
It really is too bad for the guy he could have had a better job, good people, a better income and he wouldn't have been slammed over the head. I swear this guy gets hit in the head more than Blue Beetle back in the Golden Age of comics.
I guess In fairness his relationship with his wife doesn't deteriorate at the end and she's even able to keep a nice ring despite the fact they have to on an installment plan for it. James Cagney considers loans to be a glorified racketeering business, which when you get down to it they kind of are.
I swear half of all movies have a room smashing scene. It doesn't matter if it's Citizen Kane, Phase 4 or a romantic comedies from the mid-90s if there's a nice room it has to get smashed.
You can tell a certain era in America is about to die, the top hats are getting more rare by the day.
