Film Summary CCIII (Monsignor)

Christopher Reeve plays the character of John Flaherty an American Military priest who in attempting to save an American Soldier, loses sight of his morality and moral code and decides to open fire on a group of German soldiers within 20-some yards in front of him.

You would think this would land him in hot water, but it seems the Vatican wants to get him in Rome for the American Catholic's needs representation and with their forces being so predominant in Italy they see it is a perfect golden opportunity. But things don't go too well for old Flaherty. He gets involved with organized crime, with the mafia trying to secure finances for the Vatican and even falls in love with a young woman who he knows is a nun.
This leads to the whole subplot of the film where Christopher Reeve's character has to question his own spiritual ideology and the lack of. Eventually deciding to stay with Church but not being a priest anymore.

Halfway through the movie there supposed to be a transition of time to indicate that so many years have passed, but they don't really show you anything just out of nowhere Christopher Reeve as a bit of gray hair and there's an 80s style helicopter flying around taking him to the Vatican. I thought he was supposed to be in 1940's Rome! When the hell did this transition happened and he's the only one that's aged. they didn't bother aging anybody else. I enjoy the story in this movie but that's a mighty big oversight to miss.

I don't know what it is about these Vatican films I've been watching lately. I really been enjoying them, maybe I'm becoming a sucker for the faith again, well there's only one way to find out.

I'll watch 'The Exorcist' and The Omen movies if I get offended then I'll know for sure.

Christopher Reeve reminds me of bit of Sam Neill, they both have a couple of movies there renowned for and then they're considered to be lackluster actors elsewhere.

But if you look into all their smaller films you discover that they both did a lot of drama and are actually quite talented, they just can't get their hands into that big solid Triple A movie world. That is to say permanently in that world as Superman only had so many years and with the exception of Jurassic Park I don't think Sam Neil's known to have all that many famous movie. Of course Christopher Reeve being dead and all doesn't really help anything.

Even in this movie Christopher Reeve's has a secret identity.
