Film Summary CXCV (The Killers)

Or Ubiytsy.

Well it's time to talk about ''The Killers'' again only this time we're not talking about the American adaptation of the Hemingway novel but the Russian adaptation made by one of the most prominent of Soviet directors Andrei Tarkovsky.

He recreates the opening scene from the famous forties American film. He even manages to get the American mannerisms down right. Even in this early student film you can already see some of his later techniques like the undisturbed lingering shot and the lack of sound to create a better atmosphere. I don't want to make the argument that he was better at this then Robert Siodmak the original director of the original 1940s film, but it certainly would be interesting to see.

You got to think this is a student film made in the Soviet Union there's so many obstacles to make this into something crummy, but it's not. It feels like a professionally-made movie. The only thing to critique is that all the actors are a little too young and some of them are a little wooden in their performance. But what do you want, some of these guys arn't ""legally"" allowed to drink yet. It's probably their first performance ever.

It really is just a cool thing to see
