At no point in this movie do they ever go to Arabia!
The whole movie revolves around the Axis power trying to acquire the entirety of the Arabian world as their allies. through the cooperation of various Islamic leaders. And as far as the movie goes it seems the Nazis are better equipped to do this than we are today. Isn't that the saddest thing, the Nazis are better at International politics. Of course I joke, The Nazis use manipulation and usually don't tell the various people who they actually are. They only need convince a couple of Warlords and everyone else will fall into place. If the Axis power can get the Arabian World on their side they can use them like a glorified gorilla Force, to constantly harass and Badger the Allied Forces, thus eliminating a crucial force from invading Europe. And possibly the ability to conquer the Suez Canal. The movie doesn't really bring that up too much. Kind of sad to think that the British and the French will screw the pooch in about 20 years and completely lose out on the Suez Canal. But that's imperialism gone awry so what are you going to do.
So the very swab George Sanders* comes to Syria pacifically to the city of Damascus (which in the beginning of the film is incorrectly named the world's oldest city. Although Damascus is certainly up there as one of the oldest cities I don't believe it holds the title of the oldest that might be the city of Ur. though to be honest I'm not entirely sure.) Anyways Mr Sanders was a diplomat for the United States along with a friend of his who later dies of mysterious causes and it's his job to uncover the murder and in doing so discovers and devious plot involving the Nazis. Like so many other movies it's shows itself as being a war drama but in reality is more of a detective Noir story.
I find it amusing that the Syrian princess was played by an Austrian Hungarian of Slovenian ethnicity (Lenore Aubert) how's that for multiculturalism.
*Some of you may know Mr Sanders better as ''Simon Temple 'The Saint' or his character Mr. Freeze from the Adam West Batman television show. Although most of you may know him as Shere Khan from The Jungle Book.
