That is before both World Wars, the Suez Canal Crisis, the Margaret Thatcher years, black Wednesday, the Scottish referendum to leave the United Kingdom and now brexit. combining together to utterly destroy the British bank system and rid it of any ''real'' Financial power.*

Henry Adams is a typical middle American chap, who through unfortunate circumstances finds himself in Britain with not a shilling nor a pound to his name. Through his desperation he comes in contact with two eccentric millionaire ''Oliver Montpelier'' and ''Roderick Montpelier'' These men are of such high class and of such financial status that they can acquire million pound notes without the slightest hesitation. They present the bill too Henry proclaiming that if he can survive a month and not spend the bill he will receive a great reward, they then decide to leave England after to prevent him from contacting them with in he's sit time. Now Henry Adams must use his million-pound note and convince the rest of the world that he is in fact himself and eccentric millionaire. By doing this he will acquire much Financial wealth, a form of dignity he never experienced before and may even find true love.

I'm at a strange Crossroads with the film, on one hand Gregory Peck is a fantastic actor and is a wonderful person to watch on stage and the acting of everyone else is pretty good too. On the other hand the movie takes a high amount of Liberty with the original Mark Twain story putting in pointless drama and completely altering the ending.

I'd only recommended the people that enjoy George packs acting otherwise stick to the short story.
That's said I've always held the idea that a film should take an original story and run with it in its own unique Direction. And this film does that quite well. So maybe I'm wrong to dislike it**.

The film I must admit found a great way of implementing Henry Adams inner monologues without making him sound crazy. The film introduces a mute character who Henry can talk to and express his various feelings too. It's a great way of keeping the inner dialogue without just having him talk to himself.

*It's a bit of a misnomer. Britain is still the financial capital of Europe specifically London, even if they leave the EU they probably won't lose that status for 10 to 20 years ''if at all.''

**When I say dislike I mean that in comparison to the original story the films not bad at all.
