Film Summary CCXLIV (The Black Raven)

The big question here is, are there any innocent people in this hotel? And the real answer is no, there are a few people whose motivations are unclear but everyone else is a bit of an ass.

Rather it be the owner of the hotel who runs a kind of human smuggling operation*. Getting people from America into Canada. And keep in mind this is 1940s Canada at a time when the only thing in Canada was wooden housing and Canadians. And I can assure you that there's nothing worse on this Earth then spending more than 20 minutes with a Canadian. Some people have said the Americans have no culture but compared to Canada they're the most enlightened cultured people around. Canadiens by contrast are very uninteresting, lacking, unmotivated people.
The one donkey character is a Bank worker who embezzled $50,000 and is now trying to make his way across the border. He kind of reminds me of Don Knox but with absolutely no comedy. Some people would argue that's for the better but I'm not so sure.

The film takes place in the black raven inn a small out-of-the-way hotel in the middle of nowhere near the Canadian border. It seems like everyone and their dog is trying to get out of America at exactly the same time. Too bad for them, Nature's decided you'll never cross that bridge. And in doing so sticks a bunch of crazy untrustworthy people in a single Hotel ''one of which is an escaped convict who has it out for the hotel manager.'' As you can imagine there's a lot of murder and a lot of confusion. It is a fairly enjoyable film for what it is and it only an hour long it doesn't have to stay it's welcome.
I didn't expect to see Charles Middleton in this movie, coming in as nothing more than a sheriff. And a bit of a bumbling sheriff, he gets tricked by multiple people, shot once and almost loses out on three merders. Realy incompetence when you get down to it.
Still it's good to see him in movies that aren't just Flash Gordon, I love Emperor Ming as much as the next person but you got to get a bit more perspective out there with your actors.

*That's human trafficking in the I'm going to forge an ID for you since as opposed to the I'm going to put you in a box and literally ship you over the Border since. But for which are illegal but the latter at least has a bit of class to it you're still a human being at the end.

Don't actually have anything against Canadians.
