It's a general rule of thumb that when remaking a movie it should be something subpar or bad. Good movies need not a remake. But once in awhile something will come about that challenges that general rule and works.
Ocean's Eleven is a great example of a big-budget movie done right. It has a fun story, fantastic characters, solid cinematography, catching music and above all else phenomenal pacing. I'd be hard-pressed to say that the film ever slows down. now that might sound like a detriment, after all the Transformers movies don't technically slow down, but they have mindless action to fill the gap.
Ocean's 11 leads more to drama, Misfortune, suspense and intrigue. It doesn't take it self seriously and it never jumps off the rails, for the most part you can always follow what's going while being pleasantly surprised at clever little turns.
One could make the argument that it's a little too convenient, and it is. It doesn't ask questions like ''what happens after the EMP bomb is stolen?'' you'd think more people would be after them on that. Or how did they clean the hundred million dollars they stole from the casino?
The real answer is, who cares. That's not the point of the movie, it's a heist film and it wants to show you every nook and cranny of how it happens. You get to see what every little characters up to. This also helps with pacing with literally having 12 different characters with their own individual stories, each one two deverse from the other but interlinked at the same time.
So you have Danny ocean the one character who hasn't change from the original film. Being played by George Clooney the closest the modern world ever going to get to a Frank Sinatra or any other grown or for that matter. Just coming out of prison. The first thing he decides to do, make a trip over to LA reconnect with his friend Rusty (Brad Pitt) and plan the biggest casino heist in world history.
they'll hire nine other people including a tiny Asian man who can do flips. and they'll go on the Grand Adventure to acquire over a hundred million dollars. In reality you couldn't do this to any casino. The second one guy lost his key card there'd be a bunch of guards all over the place making sure nothing was wrong. And when the other guys drop their clothing in the elevator that would raise suspicion too. But those are nitpicks. Don Cheto was a lot of fun, especially considering his absurd over-the-top British accent filled with as many ridiculous slang words as humanly possible to say.
You'd think Andy Garcia would be more careful with his casinos, after all look what happened to Robert De Niro.
How many video games have ripped off Ocean's 11? I'd imagine quite a few.
Unfortunately the world of computer gaming is always about 15 years behind the cinema. So anytime they bring something out it allways seems a bit dated. Today I think you could make a decent Ocean's 11 computer game.
It's so strange to see Julia Roberts in this movie, it shouldn't be. She plays her role well and she's a perfect character for the premise, but no matter what she dose she'a always going to be the woman from ''Notting Hill''
I know pretty woman is the more famous movie, it's also a much better movie. But Notting Hill is the one I've seen a bunch of times, unfortunately.
