Stories fairly simple, a ragtag group of weirdos have to team up with one another to deliver the magic Orb* to the Empire, so it doesn't fall into the hands of the space pirate. All the crew doesn't really like one another and they all have wacky little personalities. Let the high-Jinks ensue. But I was generally happy watching this movie, a lot more so than that new Star Wars movie which just came off is repetitive and boring. Guardians of the Galaxy may not be all that unique but at least it and a new coating of paint to all the different troupes we've seen before.
Saw this one out of necessity because it seems this is one of those everyone seen it films. They're going to be bringing it up for a while as a reference for other films. And also the fact that with the second movie now out it's literally spoiling things in the first movie just by having certain event shown off in the second one.
I'm not sure having our opening scene with our young main characters mother dying of cancer is the best way to start out your wacky hi-jinks film. I mean sure it work for up but it just feels so weird to have here. Especially considering that no other part of the movies going to get this dark.
Also what the hell is going through that kids head when he got up ducted. His mother just died he's about to run away and then you're abducted by an alien race. Who oddly enough look like humans but never acknowledge that their humans. I guess it's the Star Wars problem. Which I suppose isn't really a problem when you're a science fantasy.
It's got all the Whimsy of the old Star Wars movies but it's got the technical details colourisation and general camera work of the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Which is a really good fit when you get down to it.
I only have two complaints. And they're both typical movie problems of the Modern Age. 1 the audio sound to the music doesn't mix up well so if you're watching it at home on a home theatre system (or my case on a computer) you keep turning the volume up and down depending whats happening.
My second problem and more of a question is why they didn't just make this entire movie CGI. I mean what the amount of computer graphic in you showing you might as well just go the whole nine yards. Then you have no hold backs at all, you don't have to use real cameras you can show off more interesting shots and design your aliens to be anything you want. I get that people like the real life face (adds a sense of realism) and there are a lot of physical props in the movie which surprised me. I was expecting this to be a lot more like those prequel Star Wars films.
I'm writing about this one day after seeing it and I've realised that I have no idea what happened in the middle of the movie. As fun as it was it just kind of goes in one ear and comes out the other , maybe it was just over hyped for me. I mean people are talking about this like it was the third revelation of Christ. It's not zootopia but it's still fun
*If it was me I wouldn't have used an orb, all I can think of now is the Venture Brothers they had a magical orb that it was supposed to be a destructive doomsday weapon. Maybe. And then it turns out to be nothing because one of the original guys broke it. Anyways that's what I think every time I see the orb in this movie. Is David Bowie going to come in and Save the Day ?
