Film Summary CCLXVI (High Society)

Is it still considered a love triangle with three guys love the same woman. Well I say love; Really only two of them loved her and one of them's going to get completely screwed over. Now the three men in question are Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and John Lund, it doesn't take a genius to know which one's going to get screwed over.

The girl to be is named Samantha played by Grace Kelly. She's supposed to be marrying a man named George (John Lund).
But old Bing Crosby isn't quite ready to give up, he decides to make himself the entertainment for the wedding and invites Louis Armstrong and his band to be his local set up. The idea being that he can bring up romantic images in Samantha's head to remind her of the good days. When they were married. Now Samantha might be beautiful but she's also a little self-absorbed, with high resentment towards her father for leaving his wife and running off with some belly dancer woman.
She seems to take this frustration out on her former husband Bing Crosby. Now she's trying to marry a new man this George fella. He's an adequate if not slightly boring man who cares more about his social image than any true form romance.

Now at first you think it's going to be a confrontation between Bing Crosby and John Lund as the two of them fight for the affection of Samantha. With Bing Crosby being The Lovable Underdog who has to win back her heart. But unfortunately for both of them Frank Sinatra ends up getting mixed up in the picture when he's introduced as a reporter for some low end Tabloid known as ''Spy magazine.''
Now Frank Sinatra has no qualms with telling off Samantha for what she is. A selfish entitled brat. At first she takes quite a bit of resentment towards this but as the picture progresses she gradually Falls more infatuated with the man. Then you bring on the stress of an impending wedding and a copious amount of alcohol that can be found in a secret Library Bar. And you create a perfect recipe for unmitigated disaster.

We also get to see Frank Sinatra pretending to be drunk, he's no Foster Brooks but he still a fairly entertaining Lush.

The music's particularly good it starts out a bit slow only having one or two songs for 10 minutes but towards the end of the film they become more frequent. And it really helps to Quicken the pace. Bing Crosby gets one or two solid songs Frank Sinatra gets the big zingers.
What's a fairly enjoyable film, Grace Kelly is the true star. She comes off as a little whiny and snubbery at the beginning but really rounds off towards the end.
