Film Summary CCLXXXI (A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving)

It's the middle of the road film Charlie Brown. That is the say it's less famous than the Great Pumpkin or the Christmas movie but probably better known than the one where they go to France. I forgot how little actually happened in this film. Usually there's some great conflict that pushes the story forward and is a real problem for Charlie and his friends but here it's just a basic misunderstanding. Which admittedly does make for more comedic viewing.

It's Thanksgiving (or possibly the day before Thanksgiving) and Charlie Brown is standing around with Lucy discussing that ever prominent football that Charlie Brown is never able to kick. Lucy informs him that it's a local tradition to let one kick the football on Thanksgiving and Charles buys this; Going in for the kick, missing it as per-usual and then being informed ''that certain Traditions just tend to fade away.''
The next bit of the film is just Charlie explaining to his friend Linus that he's going to his grandmother's for Thanksgiving. Before getting a phone call from Peppermint Patty telling him that her father is out of town and it's given Peppermint Patty permission to go to Charles house regardless of the fact that Charlie Hasn't invited her. She also tells him that she's inviting their friends Franklin and Marcy.
This puts Charlie in a bit of heart water as he's not going to be at his house and had no plans to make dinner. So he gatherers help of his friend Linus and his dog Snoopy to put together a grand feast.
The next 10 minutes of the movie are just Snoopy and his amusing friend Woodstock setting up a picnic table and attempting to cook a child's definition of a ''supreme meal. Mainly just pieces of buttered toast with popcorn and pretzels.
Not a bad dinner if you ask me. I've had worse on Thanksgiving.

The dinner itself upsets Peppermint Patty as she berates Charlie Brown for not giving them the proper trimmings of turkey, mashed potato and cranberry sauce. This makes Charlie upset and peppermints friend Marcy has to inform her that She was being a little hard on Charlie Brown especially considering that she was an uninvited guest to begin with. After this Peppermint tells Marcie to go tell Charlie Brown that you didn't mean it and that they're still friends.
For Peppermint Patty might consider herself a solid headed individual who can overcome any obstacle but she still has problems expressing her feelings.
After the dinner situation gets resolved Charlie Brown decides to phone is grandmother informing her that he will be a little late. His grandmother tells* Charlie that he can bring his friends over for a proper dinner and that's all the children rejoice.
The film that ends on a secret meal between Snoopy and Woodstock who had an entire proper Thanksgiving meal just for the two of them.

The whole film overall is a little dull but it's only 25 minutes long, and it's Peanuts cartoon so you should know what to expect when you start watching it. The animation is surprisingly fluid wean it needs to be any. Any scene between Snoopy and Woodstock trying to set up the table or fighting a lawn chair are well drawn . The colour palette for the entire film is fantastic, to you really do get the feeling that it's fall out there. Or at least American fall. Up here in Canada it's already snowing and it's been snowing for over a month.
Which also answers the question of why am I watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving now when it's a week away from American Thanksgiving and well over a month since the Canadian one. Well I missed out watching it during Canadian Thanksgiving and decided to meet at the halfway mark.

*But we can't understand her because no adults can be understood in the Charlie Brown Universe.
