We have finally hit double digits. It almost feels like the home stretch at this point.
We open on a splash page, because we always open on a splash page. Of Carnage and his friends running through the street, still destroying things. They've been doing for the last 5-6 Comics. But this time they have Eddy Brock in their hands and they're trying to look for a fun place to set up shop. So they can torture the ever-living hell out of him.
While all this is happening Spider-Man's hanging out with Captain America in his super computer hidden cave. (Or at least I think it's a supercomputer hidden cave.) It baffles me a little bit. Captain America's a dude from the freaking forties. Why is he using a bunch of fancy looking computers? I was born in the nineties and I barely understand how any of this crap works. Have you people seen my blog. It looks like it's 15 years out of date.
But then Captain America has always been a quick learner. It raises a weird question. The original Captain America was frozen back in the 1940s so that they could Proclaim Captain America in the 1950s (who was fighting the Communists) was actually a fake. They did this because those Comics weren't very popular. It's just lame to see Captain America fighting a bunch of communist, it's an ideological battle mixed in with the Cold War. It just doesn't work. So the real Captain America was unfrozen in the 1960s which wouldn't be that big of a leap. 20 years so the computers have advanced quite a bit and the music's a bit weird. But I don't think you'd have too much ''Future Shock'' to get over. But as the years have progressed in real life Captain America's freezing date has kept moving up. We're getting to the point where he's being unfrozen in the 2010s. How does he comprehend all that crap that's going on today?
Nixon Scandal alone would put me into the dumps for a while. The assassination of JFK all these crappy Middle Eastern Wars with no proper enemy.
Seeing your once-beloved superpower Nation who grew up with morality turned into a subpar superpower who can barely keep up with a communist Menace of China, with everyday becomeing more and more questionable in the eyes of the world. What are we going to do with Captain America and 20 years? He's going to wake up and he's going to see Judge Dredd standing over him.
Okay I got really off topic there. So Captain America is looking for information on the supercomputer. And he discovers this weird robot man (that wacky guy who tried fighting Carnage earlier and got beaten up within two panels.) I guess he wants to hook up with Captain America and fight the good fight. Also ''Iron Fist'' shows up. I wasn't aware that guy ever had a computer. But I guess he does. He's another character that seems more out of date as time goes on. He's the most 70s looking dude in the world, even by the 90s he's just seems so out of place.
We did get a scene with Firestar and Spider-Man. Firestar is a little bit shooken up, given her almost killing Carnage scenario that came about in the last comic. She's both upset for at herself for not doing the deed and is horrified at how close she really came to achieving it. There's a bit of a banter between her and Spider-Man over the right thing to do and keeping one's morality in the face of absolute chaos. After this Spider-Man decides he has to take a little break. Claiming that Firestar and Captain America can do wonders for Spider-Man but there's only one person that can give the Personal Touch to Peter.
So he heads home to MJ who at this point is really shook it up. The two of them make up as best they can. Still uneasy terms but at least not willing to separate. It's the stress of marriage, a problem that modern Spider-Man longer has.
The person who is having a real problem in this comic is Black Cat. She's finding all of Carnage's minions more or less on her own. She has a Little Help from Cloak but as we all know that isn't much value these days. She's getting pretty beat down given that she's going up against four different bad guys (two of which have super powers well beyond her own.) And they almost take her out until the arrival of yet another new character! And oh my God!
I've mocked and raved about all the other characters that have been introduced for being silly and dumb. But this is the silliest and dumbest of all Marvel characters. And you all know him.
It's spawn!
The strange homeless man who fights demons. Now he's in this comic and it really does feel like a 90s mess. That's the other problem with this comic, once again there's way too much going on. All the giant fight scenes are too muddle together. I can't tell what anyone's actually doing. Especially when the Demo-goblins involved with his god-forsaken pumpkin bombs.
And while all this is going on Carnage and his girlfriend Shriek are torturing the ever-loving crap out of Eddie Brock. Placing him over an open flame and shooting him with the Sonic gun. There's not a lot to this scene, it's just ''look at how bad the bad guys are'' plot point.
And now we get to the best scene in the whole comic, perhaps the best scene in the last 6 comic books. Spider-Man dealing with a group of robbers inside of a crumbling building. There's no ridiculous super powers or over-the-top vampire characters. It's just Spider-Man saving innocent people from men with guns. And it feels like the biggest breath of fresh air we could see in a Spider-Man comic. I was almost taking a back as if to remember ''oh my God Spider-Man sometimes does take care of the regular people!''
And we wrap up the comic with Captain America and all the other superheroes meeting up in one location. They're preparing to go find Cartage... Again.
Also all the characters I thought were killed in the last Comic actually survived here. Apparently Captain America was able to put them inside some sort of medical pod that stop them from dying. How very convenient.
Well this is definitely what we call a filler comic. If you skip this one and went to the next you wouldn't have missed too much. The only thing of note is that Spider-Man was able to see MJ for a few minutes and he also got to save some innocent people. Besides that there's nothing else to extreme here.
