Starting with a scream. That is Eddie Brock being roasted over an open fire like a big old Chestnut.
As they're hiding out in the Statue of Liberty.
What is it with people that want to hide in the Statue of Liberty? It's where the villains are hiding in that 90s Judge Dredd movie. It's where Magneto puts Rogue in the X-Men movie. It's the police headquarters in the original Deus Ex.
I've never actually been to the Statue of Liberty but it seems like it be a bit cramped.
So Carnage's having fun roasting his little dinner guests (who may also be dinner). When out of nowhere the vanpire and Spawn show up. It's time for another fight and Lord of all Shockers Spawn and the lame vampire don't do very well. Carnage isn't even that bothered by them, he doesn't even get engaged in the fight and his girlfriend Shriek is out in the middle of New York causing her own form of Chaos.
And now we cut to Captain America flying over New York City in a strange dinner plate looking spaceship.
Marvel Comics likes to play fast and loose with current technology and it works quite well when you want to show off a cyborg man or some sort of botched experiment . But when you have Captain America running around he really shouldn't be in a UFO. It just isn't becoming of him. I guess he got tired of that crappy station wagon van.
They're flying around New York looking for Carnage (and making me sound like a broken record). They find Shriek causing Evermore chaos in the middle of a busy Street. They decide to engage her. There able to beat her down fairly easily. Because all the other cronies are out and about. And then Captain America and his group decide. ''We need to stop the Looting of the average citizens'' Carnage and his friends are doing a lot of damage but the long-term damage of the civilian populace will be far greater if we don't stop these people immediately. Luckily only the mere presence of the superheroes stops these people from doing their dastardly Deeds. Lueders seeing Captain America feel ashamed and put back there ill-gotten Goods.
And in a scene that I can only describe as possibly the darkest moment in this whole comic. A mother is about to throw her two screaming children off of a 20-story building . She's only stopped when she see Spider-Man and remembers how much her children loves Spider-Man. How they looked up to him. She realizes her folly and thanks Spider-Man for being there*. It's this little tim-bit that really gets Spider-Man's mind back on track. As he realized that only his presence, no one else's could have stopped this woman from committing murder of our own children.
And it seems the news is picking up on the superheroes deeds and Reporting it to the city. Stating that citizens are finally calming down and the violence is coming to an end. This puts Peter Parker's family and indeed Mary Jane in a better sense of mind.
I don't know who did the colouring for this comic but every white person has this slight red tone to them. If you combine this with Mary Janes slightly permed red hair she looks a bit like Starfire.
We turn over to Shriek who's tied to a light pole, she's rescued thanks to the aid of Doppelganger and Demogoblin. The three of them are about to head back to Liberty when they're confronted by Captain America, Spiderman and the others. They taught the superheroes claiming that they fought them before and it's never turned out well for them. But this time Captain America has an entire city block** of average people on his side all shouting that they'll help the heroes fight the wood-be villains.
It's at this point that I learned that shriek had a form of telekinetic power that could alter the Mind state of people around her. She can't make them do her bidding but she can turn them in a sense feral.
There's also a small scene of black cat who's hesitant to go back into the fighting. It seems her heart just isn't in it anymore and that you can't be bothered. Probably for the best she has no superpowers and she's not that helpful to begin with. There's also the character cloak who's sitting in some charge thinking to himself that there's some deep secret within the building that will be able to save him later on and possibly save everyone else. In other words it's a stay tuned for this turn out.
So I think something got removed from the comic I'm reading. There's a line of dialogue wear Spider-Man's talking about Mary Jane and there's a little asterisks next to her name. This usually indicates a sub story that can be read in a different comic book. Usually the little asterisks points to a corner where you can see the title of the other book for purchase. But there's no minibox in this particular scene. So I'm wondering if there's some secondary story they decided they didn't want to sell anymore. And this is an original series syndicated copy. It only came out half a year or a year at most after the original run.
Which also brings me to another point this series I own in a full 14 volume set cost at the time about 33 Canadian dollars or 25 American dollars. Which is a bit steep to me. This is from 1994. That's a lot of money to plunk down for 14 comic books.
So for some reason the character Spawn has a sentient Cape. I've never heard about this until reading this comic. Seems a bit silly, but then the character Spawn was always silly to begin with.
I wanted to make a joke about an Antiquated computer that a ludar was trying to steal in this comic. But then I realize my own computer is 7 years old and is already considered antiquated by current standards. Making fun of old technology is kind of stupid. Because no matter what technology you're using right now, It's going to be an Antiquated piece of junk probably within a year. Unless you have one of those old-school supercomputers that all the atomic bombs are attached to. It doesn't matter how old those things get they've got the might of a billion tons of TNT behind them. And that will never be a laughing matter.
*So I got that the woman didn't throw her kids off the building . But she was still fully committed to doing it originally. There's no way I would leave those children with that woman. If anything I've at least call the authorities on her and get those children take it away to Social Security or some other organization. It's one thing to have a parent that might slap you most people frown on that, But throwing them to their death. That's not forgivable.
**It amusing that the part of New York that was having so much trouble was 42nd Street.Which apparently used to be quite the sleazy little Streets back in the day filled with low rent apartments Dime Store feeders and loads of drug dealers. I used to live near 42nd Street, it had no sign, it wasn't technically a street but a glorified back-alley and it had potholes about 3 ft long and sometimes up to a foot deep. It was a really crappy road that also bent inwords. So if it rained even just a little the entire thing would be flooded in a mere few minutes.
