Starting on an image of Captain America holding a machine gun in the air. I don't know where he got the machine gun, I don't believe any of the peasants had a machine gun. And I don't think Captain America uses guns. I know very little about him .
A news anchor is reporting on the violent situation that's taking place throughout New York City. Apparently Shriek psychiatric power has the ability to travel throughout all five of the New York boroughs .Now I don't know that much about New York but I just can't imagine that Shriek has the power to mentally alter the minds of hundreds of thousands of people. That just seems a little too extreme . I don't even think Professor Xavier would have the ability to reach that many people. Peter Parker's father turns off the broadcast and starts loudly proclaiming; ''We're all doomed! Humanity is worthless, look at the destroyed morality out in the streets.'' Blah blah blah blah.
And this is made all the more difficult to read because my copy of this comic has his speech bubble halfway pushed into the middle of the page the only way I could properly see it. Is if I warped and bent the spine out of shape. Thank God I don't really care what Peter's father has to say. I can kind of just glanced over it. I swear out of all the characters to be maintained, butchered or killed in this comic they couldn't have done it to Peter Parker's father. Although I do like the scene where Mary Jane stands up and starts Bad-mouthing Peter's father. Telling him to keep his mouth shut and he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.
We do get this amusing close up of Aunt May's face. Showing a hint of a smile at Mary Jane's reaction. It often makes me wonder if she knew about Peter's secret identity even at this point. It's alluded to in later Comics that she knew for quite a few years. But that might be a whole other cannon. That's the problem with Spider-Man and for that matter most other comic book characters. They all have about 15 different variants and every few year they try to smoke them all together by blowing up the Earth. It never works, it just makes me lose faith in the comic and then I stopped reading. I'm looking at you Deadpool.
We then cut over to Carnage who is still torturing Eddie Brock. Eddie's pleading for his life and begs Carnage not to hurt him anymore. Carnage gos on a little rant belittling Eddie Brock for what a pathetic mess he's become.
Carnage then notices the Symbiotes of Venom trying to reform around Eddie Brock. He decides to pick up the Sonic gun as to weaken the Symbiotes yet again. Only to discover That a small chunk of Venom was able to sneak into the gun during Carnage's rant. It had planted itself inside the Sonic gun as to regenerate and heal. When Carnage pulls the trigger the Symbiotes latches on to Eddie and creates a fully formed Venom. He then has the ability to break away from his chains and escaped from the Statue of Liberty leaving Carnage in the dust.
Carnage in a state of despair bitterly screams:
I won! I was winning!
I was winning!... Sounds a bit like Charlie Sheen.
We then see Cloak still sitting inside the Holy Ghost Church. He's in a confrontation with his own mind As he Ponders: The longer I sit here the more people will die and yet there is something mysterious within the church beckoning to my soul. Have I gone mad with grief or is there truly something spiritual around me.
Now we're back on the streets of New York Captain America and crew are fighting the civilian population yet again. And some of the pressure is starting to get to our heroes who believed that all this fighting has become pointless. Meanwhile Shriek and her a little group of minions are sitting on top of a high building debating on ditching the city and wandering off on their own, not wanting to put up with Carnage anymore. That is until Carnage shows up, grabs Shriek by the neck and nearly kills her. He proclaims in a power-hungry tone; ;;Nobody runs this family but me!'' And that he'll rip every one of them apart if he needs to. Carnage just about loses his entire policy when Captain America and Friends interrupt him.
All the baddies decide to put their differences aside so they can engage once more in a fight with the good guys.
And boy is it just getting repetitive at this point. How many more times can the two groups fight each other? Doesn't even make a difference anymore? Well it kind of does because Clock finally shows back up and he's accompanied by Dagger of all people who somehow is still alive . She seems to have resurrected in the world via some sort of spiritual connection with Cloak. She was the strange magical force who Clock was feeling with-in the Holy Ghost Church.
It's for the best that she finally showed up because Spider-Man was starting to lose his mind again. He was smashing brick on top of a large apartment building saying that it's all useless that his father was right.
It doesn't take very much to break Spider-Man it seems. He's also kind of a secondary character in this comic. If it wasn't for his relationship with Mary Jane I'd hesitate to call him a main character.
This Comics very strange. Half the pages are literally one page spreads with maybe 10 words of dialogue while other pages are 12 to 13 panels loaded with several paragraphs of chatting.
It's an okay comic but the tedium is starting to wear in, It's a good thing this the 12th volume. And we only have two more to go, because they've run out of steam. Now it's time to wrap everything up, have a final confrontation, get all the many arcs complete make complete this story.
