Film Summary CCCLXI (The Dark Knight Rises)

Initially watching this movie in the theatres was enjoyable.
and I wondered why people have taken such a Negative turn to this film. Oh I don't think it's as good as the other two but it was still enjoyable. However this is before right we watched it again. And I had never seen it since it originally came out in theatres.
Now we watching it I'm starting to notice a few of the flaws. They're not the ones that everyone else seem to have complained about. Especially in regards to Bane's voice. Everybody made a big deal about that, and I don't entirely get it. He sounds a little muffled but no more so than other popular Mask characters.
My problem came with some of the dialogue. Particularly between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. They're playing this odd cat and mouse game or maybe I should say cat and bat.
The dialogue feels so unnatural. As if this was a screening process and they hadn't properly begun filming. Maybe that's a wrong analogy as the acting between both these people is fine, it's just the dialogue itself is kind of corny. Honestly it would make more sense to see in the comic book.

Speaking of silly dialogue and voices for that matter. There's a point in this movie where Selina Kyle starts having her own Gravely Batman voice and it's kind of hilarious. Like it didn't sound good coming out of Bruce Wayne and it doesn't sound good coming out of you. Especially because she wants the magical tablet computer that gets rid of all file recognition. That is somebody's date of birth, passports, other identification cards, criminal records. The only problem is just about any competent organisation probably has a hard copy on you at some point. Especially if you're a criminal.

I think what amazes me most about this film is how much I forgot about it. I remember the basic plot well enough. Bruce Wayne goes into hiding, he's accused of being the one to kill Harvey Dent (As Batman) he comes back as Batman gets his back broken by Bane, has to get himself out of a big hole in the ground, get back to Gotham and stop Bane from doing whatever the hell it was he was going to do.
Raz al Ghul's daughter is also here. When I originally watched the film I didn't think much of her. But we watching it now it's really telegraphed that she's not a good person. Like the old stereotype of the humanitarian who turns out to be evil. It's a trope in comic books.
And then there's all the secondary stuff which I kind of remember while watching the film again. It's as if a little light switch got turned on and I said ''oh! Right. This stuff, I vaguely remember this.''

Part of me wanted to see a movie between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. What the actual film would have focused on their dynamic. It would have had Catwoman stealing from Bruce Wayne and then he has to come out of retirement to try and figure out how to deal with this newly introduced Catwoman. what the stories been done before and seeing it in a film would just be redundant. So maybe it would have been best just to play the whole thing down or not even have it at all. This feels very similar to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man 3 film where there's just too many characters. You can't really focus on any of them and you start to lose interest because you can't come it's with one story.

This movie was another example of me wanting to love it. To watch the film and realise that everyone who just liked it was kind of over-reacting or maybe was just flat out wrong. But unfortunately that's not really the case. This film has problems and everyone soliloquies way too much even more so than the other two.

Maybe if you had never seen the movie before and it was your first viewing you might be okay. I did. I saw this in the theatres and I really enjoyed it but there's just something that's lacking upon any repeated viewing and that's a really problematic considering the other two Batman movies are still quite good.
And then there's the length. 2 hours and 40 minutes that is just far too much. This isn't Lord of the Rings or even some sort of War documentary or great Roman epic it's just a man in a silly costume having to deal with another man in a silly mask. There's no reason this movie should have to go beyond two hours.
It's just not my cup of tea. If it works for you then great and I mean that because I wanted to love this movie again and I just couldn't do it.

I still didn't have that big a problem with Bane's voice. The only time it was hard to hear him is when the music was really loud and that was usually during a fight scene and you can't hear anybody in these movies when the a musics on. Also the music's a little manipulative in this film. I found it sticking out a lot more than it should have. What should be an Ambient sound in the background is taking more of my attention in the actual scene in the film. But I think I might be getting to nitpick territory now.

Oh! Then there's the robin subplot. Which is just kind of there. I almost forgot to bring it up . Part of me kind of wish that was just the movie. The guy who becomes Robin acting as a police officer trying to deal with these ridiculous situations in the city that's becoming contempt with mediocrity and can't take on super criminals anymore.
