Film Summary CCCLXV (Get Outta Town)

So I had plans to review the 2005 King Kong movie. But the darn things over 3 hours long and it's really tough to find a window of time to actually do that. Then I thought to myself, I'll do a comic review and then forgot to read the comic.

There's this guy named Kelly he's a two-time crook who decided to leave this local Town some 3 years ago to get away from it all. At some point you decided he wanted to reclaim his life and make himself and try to make something of himself. Only he discovered that he wasn't much good at anything outside of the criminal world. So he ends up having to work on a fish dock somewhere doing menial labour. Now personally I don't have much sympathy for people who complain and bemoan their typical average life and having a steady job*. It may not be a great job but at least you're working.
However it is shown later on that he has a sickening effect around fish. He just can't stand the little things. So I guess I have to feel a little sorry for him having a job in which he surrounded by something that he despises.
But none of that has any effect on the current plot. Kelly's returned home and immediately is already harassed by police who assume that he's up to no good. He goes to see his mother and she wants nothing to do with him throwing money in his face and telling him to get out. Even his ex-girlfriend seems disinterested in the guy. He was a loud mouth abusive bastard of a man.

He's trying to convince his ex-girlfriends that he's changed. But she doesn't want to hear anything, not just that she's distraught over the death of his brother a person she was currently in a relationship with. Oh that's the other major reason Kelly return back home. To attend the funeral of his brother. Which is something we never actually see.
Now everything gets more confusing for Kelly when he overhears his ex-girlfriend saying; ''Oh I wish I hadn't killed him." This leads him on to an inquiry about the death of his brother.
At first he had heard it was only a simple accident, but after the disturbing words from his ex-girlfriend and the silent and awkward reactions of half the criminal underworld, he begins to suspect Foul Play.

Now he goes on a full investigation talking with everyone he used to know from back in the day to try and unveil the truth. He discovers that his brother's death was part of a much bigger Affair involving the death of high class mobsters. Combine this with the police were looking for any excuse to Walk Away Kelly and it makes for a very difficult time.

Ultimately it's Kelly versus the world as he tries to discover the true motives behind his brother's death. Or at least that's what the film is trying to convey.
Realistically, it's just Kelly running around heading into different locations and trying to interact with people. Sometimes he gets good information sometimes he doesn't. The whole thing is bogged down an exposition as we don't really see anything (Outside of the occasional fight and the world's least interesting love triangle). You could have easily turn this entire thing into a radio play. I often wonder if it would have done better as a radio play. It's kind of long and tedious and that's a bit of a problem when it's only an hour in length.

I found the best way to watch this film was just to pay attention to the basic dialogue. Everybody's trying to put on their best mid East Coast tough guy accent. In other words a background movie.

The soundtrack has some energy to it. When they can be bothered to use it. They have all this weird swing jazz music that sounds like it's out of a naked gun film. I think they're trying to give the film a 40s Noir atmosphere.
We're supposed to think this is a crime drama. But it comes off kind of silly, and makes the film feel incredibly dated. It wants to be a 1940s detective thriller. But at the end of the day it's a cheap 1960 B-movie who uses the same letters font as the TV show 'My Hero'.

The poster lies to us. It tells us that Kellys going to turn the town upside down looking for his brother. But really he's just going to poke a few people's buttons and then get Poke back.

*I assume his job is financially secure. He doesn't complain about being low on money and he's even willing to give his ex-girlfriend a sizable amount of cash just so she can move out of this town.
