Film Summary CCCXCVIII (Thor: Ragnarok)

A Thor movie with what I thought was a generic sounding title. But it's actually made sense. Ragnarok indeed does come and it's supposed to happen. Very Terminator 1.
Can't stop fate, can't fight fate. Just kind of have to deal with it.

Cate Blanchett was a lot of fun. At first I thought she was going for a Zod impersonation. Especially given that the first thing she says is to Kneel.
However she turned into a basic superhero villain towards the end. She kept her energy up though. So at least she was fun to watch. Part of me would have liked to have seen more time dedicated to her. Maybe get a Gene Hackman Lex Luthor kind of a personality going. Why not. She's got the little minion to bounce her ego off of.

Jeff Goldblum was in this movie for some reason. More or less playing a stereotype of himself which is a little sad to see as I'd like to see him brought on his Horizon do more actual acting.
It's a Well receives well created superhero movie. What the heck am I supposed to say that hasn't been said by somebody else.
Some of the audio sounded off. Like certain sound effects were dropped or minimalized during some of the high action scenes. I wonder if this is a side effect of being on Netflix or some other streaming site as opposed to in the theatre. It just seems like a strange thing given the high production cost of the movie.

Some of the dialogue was kind of odd. It's filled to the brim of a lot of that casual chatter that you come to expect from mid 2000 up to present films. And it sounds alright today but it's one of those things that you're going to look back on in 20 years and say; ''Boy that dated itself quite a bit.''

It's one of those movies that you enjoy watching at the time but you don't really retain much about. I guarantee by tomorrow I will have forgotten half of the entire film. Which I guess makes it better than the other Thor movies as I barely remember anything about most of those ones.

This entire review sounds incredibly negative. I've either harped on things that have bothered me or brought up that certain things could have been better. But ultimately the film's fine. There's just nothing amazing to talk about.
Is there anything else to say about this movie? Well Chris Hemsworth is built like a brick house. I guess he's been built like one for a while but he looks especially huge in this one.

This movie is filled with tons of references to all the other films. And that's something of a problem for me. If I had seen all the other movies I'm sure it would have made for a light-hearted chuckle. But as things are, I don't really follow these movies religiously. I don't watch everyone that comes out. So I'm just left here thinking ''how did half of any of this come to be?''
None of the references are so bad that it ruins or lessons any part the movie. But it does feel like you're reading the middle of a comic book series. I guess that's the point given the respective medium that the film supposed to be based on.

Just one last thing (because apparently I'm Columbo) . Can we stop having Stan Lee pop up in these god-forsaken films. I get that it's supposed to be a fun cameo in all but he's becoming something of a nuisance and seeing him in just about anything it's just incredibly distracting. Takes me out of the movie no matter what it is. Do it like Sam Raimi. Stick him in the background and have them only be kind of noticeable.
