Film Summary CDII (Dune)

So Dune is one of those movies that tons of people have seen and there's like 20 different variants of. So I found the version of it on Netflix and watch that. I don't know if there's a different version out there that explains this story better than the one I watched but I sure hope there is.
Because I have no idea what the heck happened in that film. There's about 50 different characters all with weird little names. Each one has some sort of Prophecy or a deal that they're supposed to be doing.

They live on four different planets and they're all supposed to be important even though we spend most of our time on this boring desert planet with these giant worms who are important because we're told they're important but don't actually do anything. And we need this stupid spice because  it makes you live forever in the universe where you can just fold time and travel anywhere you want?
But some creatures can just do that on their own like there's this weird fetus monster thing that I think was supposed to be the antagonist of the movie but then disappears towards the end.

Who am I supposed to root for? You got the emperor who you think is a good guy at the beginning especially given that his nephew is this duke or the son of the Duke who's technically in the Empire. Then there's this guy called the baron who's this weird homosexual man* that they made the villain.

I know some people really like this film. And I can understand why, it has an odd atmosphere to it some of the set designs really clever. I love about 20% of this movie. There's something really good that could have came out of this.
but the way everybody interacts and the internal monologues everybody's had just screams ''novel''. You can tell that this thing was based off of the novel and that's a lot of it got sacrificed when trying to be converted into a film. Because it's something of a mess.
If it was up to me I would have focused the most of the movie either on the spice plant or on the weird space travel plot involving that odd fetus alien thing. Really you could focus on any of the plot in the movie and probably get something better out of it. There's just too many variants here.

I mean what am I supposed to think about the movie. From an artist perspective it's queer, intriguing, confusing, contradictive and oddly beautiful. But as a product, as something people want to see. It's disconnected, overly convoluted and needlessly padded with secondary information that most people won't remember.

And yet despite all my negatives I'm happy the film exist. It's such an oddball little thing and I love the amount of creativity that was thrown into it. I'll take a million Dunes over one safe Studio project any day.

The amount of influence this film is had on Science Fiction and Fantasy as a whole is ridiculous. There are so many references and ideas lifted from this film that are used in other projects.
It's one of those movies I recommend people should see just for the influence alone. I don't think most would care for it as a movie, but as a piece of History it has its place.

*This film is homophobic. I know that sounds like a slanderous thing to say or that it might be a bit extreme but you have this disgusting fat man floating around who keeps looking at these other guys and having this like creepy grin on his face. And they play it up in such a way that you're supposed to be disgusted by it. I say screw you. At least his attraction is honest. He looks at a guy and he thinks I really want to screw that person or at least I have some interest in them. He's not some creepy kid roaming around with a Jesus complex thinking that he fell in love with some random girl cuz he met her for two minutes in a dream no less. Then having some creepy kid with her.

As a final note I have no opinions on the books of which this film is based on. It could be the most accurate or inaccurate thing ever created. It makes no real difference to me.
