Film Summary CDXI (Mikey and Nicky)

'Micky and Nicky' is one of those films you watch in the dead of night when you've got nothing better to do. You don't want to deal with action, you can't be bothered to put up with melodrama. You just want to see two Oddball guys talk about their life and where everything is going.

It's something of an improve film which is to be expected from John cassavetes and Peter Falk.
They naturally play off of each other pretty well in most films, there's just something about their performance here that works so well. They get to both play up their character and yet remain down to earth at the same time.
This film was an introduction into a world of Cinema I never knew existed. When I first watched it some years ago I wasn't expecting anything out of it. I was a fan of Columbo and I was expecting some fun Peter Falk film in where he pretty much plays the same character.
I never seen a movie that cared so much more about what the characters were doing as opposed to where they were going.
There's just something about it's simple yet undirected storyline that captivates me so much.

This is just one of those reviews right blow smoke up the ass of a film I like and don't really have anything else to say. It's a strange character Driven movie involving two weirdos just kind of doing stuff. It has really solid acting, it's surprisingly well paste for such a simplistic premise and script is really will written.
I mean I can't really do a simple film summary and make it sound interesting. There's a bookie who has issues with the mob. He invites one of his friends to come and help him. Then tries to push him away while simultaneously needing his help. They go to a coffee shop*, they get kicked off of a bus, they go to a cemetery, they go to one of their homes and they just wander around.
That doesn't sound very interesting and that's because the greater plot isn't.
It's like the book 'Don Quixote' it's all in the little details. It's the experience itself, you can't explain how a movie like this works. You have to wanch it yourself and make your own opinion.

Also the film has little to no soundtrack. Instead relying on the sounds of the city and the general ambience from onlookers and whoever else might be present in the film.
And that's another reason why I love this movie so much. I love a good soundtrack in a film but at the end of the day movies are a visual medium and to have something like sound interrupt that, just seems kind of strange to me. The movie should be able to survive on its look alone. Without the crutches of good audio work.

*Technically only Peter falk's character goes to the coffee shop. In one of the greatest scenes I've ever seen Peter Falk acting. It's his down-to-earth kind of silly character that he doesn't so many other shows and movies only with this angry mean streak to it.
