Film Summary CDXXX (THE LEGO MOVIE )

For some reason this movie is available to watch on YouTube today. So why not take advantage.

It's still really darn good. Even on a repeat viewing. You get something of a different experience knowing how it's going to end. You get to focus on what I thought was satire when I first watched it and what I now think was just straight-up mockery.
And it's great. Always fun to see a children's cartoon taking a jab at the general Human Condition.

All that animation. I forgot just how pretty this movie looks. All the individual Lego blocks and how everything in the world is composed of only Lego. It's absolutely fascinating to see.

I'm not usually one for giving a crap about CGI generation. As we now live in a time where it's so abundant and so easily accessible that anybody can make a halfway decent-looking movie. But every here and there you come across something that has an actual John to it and it's just wonderful.

Do we really need movies like Shrek anymore? Or for that matter do we need the formulaic films of Pixar?  The Lego Movie is generally fun and acceptable for just about anybody its story is entertaining and not as formulaic as you think it would be. And it contains a fair bit of humour that both adults and children can find entertaining in both the same and different ways. It's a little heavy on pop culture reference but what are you going to do.

Look at Pixar's modern movies. They're incredibly predictable and once you scrap away all the nice animation and music use your left with some pretty generic films. Not necessarily bad films; but basic all the same.
I kind of wish they would put a little bit more energy into their environments. Make something more ridiculous get a weird franchise and run with it.
At the end of the day the most shocking thing of all is that this came out of a toy company. Was anybody expecting this movie to be good when it first came out. I certainly wasn't.
I was expecting a horrible cash grab piece of junk with no originality and no heart. But instead we ended up with a surprisingly decent movie.

They sure do make a lot of references to that one guy liking sausage at the beginning of the movie. Also when the little Lego characters make it to the Rainbow Land the main guy responds with; ''I'm just going to come out with it, but this place is kind of weird''. Interesting Phrasing of words there.

It's nice to see a movie where Will Ferrell gets to just act like a person. Like he's still kind of an odd ball and he even gets the blame self up a bit but he gets to be an actual actor.
It's nice to see him do something that isn't just as usual man baby stick. And I get that. That's his thing and he's pretty good at it.
But giving him a little bit more variety and letting him react to things of the more subtle tone it's just nice to see.
Maybe one day they'll be a Will Ferrell movie where he can just play an average guy. Perhaps is already a movie out there that I'm not aware of. Who knows.

I wonder if they can make another Lego Movie that didn't have to rely on pop culture icons. Just imagine it. A heartfelt fun movie that was all original characters. No outside jokes no in references nothing that'll make the film dated in a few years. Just a straight-up 95% its own movie.
I can already see the complaints of a movie like that. ''You have the Lego franchise with all of its licensing at your disposal and you didn't use any of it!''
