A grand collaboration of people who wanted to remake a sub'par CGI cartoon movie. And turn it into the most ridiculous spectacle of personalised animation and weird awkward jokes all based off the script of a less than competent film.
Shrek retold is a massive effort of 200 people. All with a One Vision. To recreate the magic that was Shrek or at least the mean that was Shrek. And in a way they have created a super meme.
It was pretty darn good. So many wild and different animation Styles. Some of which perfectly recreated scenes from the movie while other ones jumped off in such an awkward directions that you're baffled they were able to get back on track. But all was done with an amazing flavour of creativity.
The musical collaborations were great too. Most of which were rhe-creations of already existing music. Not only did it add to the flare of the Shrek(retold) movie but it should guarantee the film shouldn't be hassled buy the annoyances of copyright from a bunch of corporate entities who have no interest in Creative affairs.
Some of these songs I would listen to outside of the film. Such as the rapping Robin Hood or the 80s nostalgic remake of ''I'm in love, I'm a Believer'' at the end of the movie.
It was absolutely wonderful to watch especially knowing that at the same time that you're viewing it a few other thousand people are watching it at the same time all-in-one moment when the film is being uploaded like a theatrical release but on the internet. It didn't cost a dime for anyone to watch and it was more entertaining than half the films I've seen in the last month.
Now I'm not big on the ''meme'' culture. I generally think it's a nun creative uninteresting medium where people just plaster on the same joke retold time and time again with no Rhyme or Reason. Or a bunch of weird and Corky things thrown out into the wind with claims of being comedy when in fact it's just odd or stupid.
But I can't say that about the 'Shrek Retold' movie. This had effort, this had care, this had hundreds of people gathering together to create a project that has no Financial value to anyone. And I'm hoping that it becomes a great inspiration for other people to create their own unique projects.
It's an awkward movie that deserves to be up there with other weird and zany projects. Like 'Italian Spider-Man', 'Monkey Jones: Stops a school Shooting' or 'Who Killed Captain Alex?'.
It's more proof that not every Internet movie put out by amateur people has to be a boring piece of crap.
I'm looking at you; anything made by the former Channel awesome staff or even Redlettermedia. Your guyses movies are crap and I can say that because things like this exist which are far better.
Also outside from the giant internet joke that this movie represents. There are some skits in here that are legitimately nice. Some of the people's animation Styles I far prefer to that of the actual Shrek movie. And would love to see the original film done in their Style.
