Well I'm sick as a dog. So the idea of sitting down to watch a film with anything resembling a worthwhile plot is just out of the question.
So let's turn to spoof movies.
Why not look at the surprisingly decent Naked Gun part 22. 1/2 Part 9, something something, ridiculous title.
A film that brings up the problem of energy conglomerates influencing politics years before Al Gore pushed his ''Inconvenient Truth''. At the same time deciding to beat the ever-living crap out of Barbara Bush.
I just want you to think about that for a minute. Imagine if a film was made now (or even just a few years after its initial release) beating up on Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama or whoever the hell Trump's married too. I don't know her name and I don't care.
Somebody somewhere would have been incredibly upset if you would dedicated a small part of your film to immediately assaulting any of those people.
But for some reason Barbara Bush was just seen as a giant punchline. I like to think it's because everyone was sick of Reagan's Administration and where just happy to watch a bunch of people pock the ever-living hell out of it.
Anyways the whole movie revolves around a plot pretty similar to the last film. Police detective has to figure out major case involving boyfriend of woman that he actually loves while simultaneously having to save someone really important from dying.
Although in this movie I'd only happens in the end when the guy goes completely nuts and grabs a thermonuclear device and friends to blow up everyone. What was this movie about again?
Oh who cares. It's a spoof film it doesn't matter. All that matters is that the humour works. And for the most part it kind of does. Once again it's an awful lot like the last film except they don't beat up OJ Simpson quite as much. Which is a shame because I want to see that man's face get flattened into a pile of breadcrumbs on a daily basis.
They also recycle the exact same love story after claiming that it didn't work out originally.
Only in this one it really doesn't feel like they cared that much about the actual case. I don't know why but it feels incredibly short compared to the original movie but I don't think the run time was all that much shorter. Let's check.
Nope.
It's around the same time. And I felt like we had a lot more personal connection with the main villain in that film than we do here.
Well the Comedy Works just fine. And the outcome of everything is just as silly as it was in the last film. Probably this one has Washington DC as their main backdrop. Which kind of makes things confusing when you consider that Frank Drebin and his police squad are supposed to be based in LA.
Honestly it's fine.
There's nothing to truly complain about here and it's just a lot of fun to watch. Especially when your brain is leaking out of your nose and the last thing you want to do is try to make sense of what you're looking at on screen.
Really my only complaint with this movie is that Leslie Nielsen acts a little too silly.
It's not quite on the same level as all the spoof movies that come after this one, where they just make Leslie's character as stupid as the rest of the plot. But it is a little dumber than what he was in the first movie.
It's riding the line.
He still enough of a straight man that when the overly ridiculous things happened you can laugh at them.
They at least understood that if they made Leslie Nielsen act stupid they should make whoevers interacting with him be the straight man. So that the joke at least still lands.
