You know at no points does a girl ever walk alone at night time. Unless they're on about the prostitute woman. Even then she's technically being stalked by the vampire.
Okay so let's talk about the real star of this movie. A big chubby cat. Oh yes this little white polka dotted cat that wanders around all the time and become something of a major plot Point throughout most of the movie.
First the random guy finds the cat and takes it home, then his father freaks out of the cat because he thinks it's a Reincarnation of his deceased wife and finally it ends up in the hands of the Vampire Woman Who Killed the father because he was a degenerate ass-hole who give this one woman heroine against her will. only to then be found by the original guy again when he's visiting the vampire at her home.
The movie is a fairly interesting vampire flick in where the Vampire part of the movie seems secondary to the overall story.
Really it's just about this guy who owns a nice car trying to maintain a decent Life coming in possession of a decent amount of drugs and then having this on relationship with this girl who turned out to be the vampire.
And within this whole story there's a couple of deaths and a lot of people just lying around listening to music.
But the film was made by an American* and it has all the typical Hallmarks of both Hollywood production and a few indie development at the same time. Hence the reason that it's classed as a Vice film which is news to me as I never knew these guys had a film Division. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given how well done most of their little documentaries are. To get back to the point we have a movie that transcends one culture in his kind of strange mix of everything.
American style cars, music, an overall atmosphere mixed in with a very Persian sitting. If nothing else it gives the film some decent scenery and the unique feel that exist in very few places.
Personally I think the movie depends a little too much on its musical score for intense scenes involving the vampire but otherwise a fairly solid soundtrack. It wanted to use American Music and a few older Persian songs to try and really set in on a certain narrative.
The acting by the girl who played the vampire was pretty good too. Especially the body language. There were so many scenes were it was just her moving to one direction or just standing perfectly still to set in some sense of ambiance while she either harasses or stocks her future pray. All pretty good.
Overall it's a fairly intriguing film. Fun take on the vampire story with has just you enough unique flavor to distinguish itself from the other vampire stories without diving so far off the deep end that you forget that vampires are even needed.
*I know Ana Lily Amirpour was born in Britain but she's about as British as Bob Hope.
