There's a war out there. A war of theoretical proportions. There are no enemies, there are no armies, there are no actions to be taken.
It is all in the mind of man and it is all without purpose or cause.
Now that might sound like a disinteresting scenario given that most War Stories need some form of tension in order to get your involvement.
But Here We tend to focus more on the mindset of the everyday Soldier. And the pressures that are throwing on us when we choose to engage in war.
4 men end up behind enemy lines after their plane has crashed. Their goal seems to be simple.
Get back to their own line and hope to God they're not killed by the enemy.
But everything starts to unravel as you realize that each man has their own unique interests throughout this engagement.
One guy discovers a base of a high ranking military officer of the enemy Army and he wants to make something of a name for himself.
Or just take one stab at heroism in his otherwise mundane life. He wants to kill the general.
On the other hand we have the lieutenant. The guy who just wants to get his unit back home and he seems to be the one with the most morality out of the group.
Then we have the young kid who seems like he's pretty on the level until the group accidentally comes across this one girl who's fishing in the local River.
They capture her fearing she'll report their presents to their enemy combatants.
Why'll three of them decide to go and check on their raft and Scout the area the one kid is left to take guard of this woman who's currently tied up.
This is one of the creepiest part of the movie as this young kid starts to break down insisting that this girl likes him.
He then assaults the poor woman before untying her and she attempts an Escape.
After which he shoots her with a pistol, loses what's left of his mentality and runs off into the forest cackling like a madman.
Now the other three soldiers have to try and escape on their own but the one guy is still focused on killing the general and even convinces the other two to join him.
This leads to a firefight in where one guy is standing on a raft firing wildly at a bunch of soldiers while the other two men go into the base shoot the general and his colleague and then escaping a plane. Only to get back across Enemy Lines and sit back at the same river hoping to find their friends floating on a raft on their return.
this is something of a depressing film. It wants to focus on the internal struggles of the everyday people who have to get involved in wars. And what makes it so interesting is that it has that very Vietnam movie feel to it but out over 10 years before the war will even begin.
It doesn't try to convince you that one side is better than the other or that you're supposed to root for one particular person over anyone else.
Instead you're just sitting here watching as a bunch of people grow ever more depressed at their increasingly bitter situation.
Overall it's an interesting little flick. It's only an hour long and that's probably the best thing about it. If this movie tried to be any longer than it was it would been an absolute drag to watch.
