Well I'll be. Not only did something happen in this episode but the Hamsters are actually responsible for a plot Point mixing with the people. What's uncanny!
So Laura was looking out the window with Hamtaro. They're staring off into the distance at what looks to be the ocean. I don't remember seeing the ocean in earlier episodes but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
Laura says to Hamtaro that she'd like to visit the ocean Someday. I'm wondering why she just doesn't go take a bit of a stroll down or self given that the ocean only looks to be about 10 blocks away. It's not a short walk but it's not overly long either. If she owns the bike she could get there in 10 minutes.
But as luck would have it Laura's family decides to go off to the beach and she's very happy by this experience.
She wants to bring her hamster with her but she's informed by her mother that hamsters don't swim. So she leaves a little fella behind. But of course Hamtaro being a little adventurous rodents that he is decides to take himself and even convince all of his friends that they should go see this ocean.
Partly out of the sense of adventure and partly to discover what the heck the ocean is. Apparently the hamsters have no perception of the ocean.
This involves a sneaky little plot where the hamsters have to hide away in a picnic basket the family was packing for the adventure.
Which inevitably gets them down to the beach.
Here the little hamsters discover many things. Shells, giant bottles, the fact that sand is really hot and they seem to just be having a wonderful time of it.
Meanwhile Laura and her family are sitting up there little Beach camp and Laura is becoming a bit insecure, because she's afraid of swimming. She wants to use some sort of life raft but the things been deflated.
Luckily for her, she ends up running into her friend at the beach who decides to teach her how to swim. But why'll this happens. A storm comes about and the two girls get stranded in a cave waiting for the rain to dissipate.
Hamtaro takes it upon himself to hide under a hat with the rest of the gang and run around the beach trying to attract other people's attention. All in the vain hope that they can manoeuvre them over to where the cave is it is and let them know that there's two girls stranded within it.
This somehow was works as Laura's father is a complete idiot of a man who continuously chases after a Wandering hat in the middle of the storm. I guess his idiocy pays off as he does find his daughter and her friend.
We then cut back to Laura's bedroom where Hamtaro is sitting happily eating a sunflower seed while Laura writes in her diary.
From the tone of her voice it's supposed to indicate that she's having a thought within her head. But Hamtaro was responding to the internal monologue with his own thoughts.
So now I have to wonder, is this little hamster psychic?
As an episode of Hamtaro goes this one is surprisingly decent.
There's a story that almost has a resemblance of conflict with an it and as I said at the top the hamsters are actually vital in the rescue of the two girls. Thus giving them a point to be there.
It also had a better sense of structure. Really help to move the episode along. One of the biggest issues Hamtaro has is getting stuck on pointless dialogues just to try push out the run time. but they were able to avoid much of that here.
That's the new scenery gave the hamsters new talking points. Also this episode with that weird picture of Hamtaro half scared out of his mind because he tried to go near the ocean.
