Here's a fun little 2D game where you get to live out the fantasies of slaughtering an entire party. I don't know whose fancies those are, but I sure hope they find this game as an outlet.
Story: There's this random guy who becomes upset at a loud party. It seems there's nothing he can do to stop them from continuing their party.
So he don's a hockey mask and to go on a slaughtering Rampage.
All of this information is given to us by the police officer and what I can only assume as a therapist, talking with one another about the serial killer.
Almost the hole entire story is told from the perspective of the officer detailing a case as he goes from one place to the next trying to stop a crazy man from slaughtering party goers.
But he never seems to be able to make it in time and he gets more and more distraught as time goes on as the body count rises and as people close to him start dying.
All the while the head shrink is giving him a condescending attitude and coming off as one of those sympathetic people who wants to know the mindset of the Killer. Maybe to help them, maybe to study them. It's never made clear. At least that is until the ending.
And with all that said at the ending itself is a typical twist. For it turns out the killer the shrink and the police officer are all the same person.
It's a schizophrenic nut who has multiple personality syndrome communicating with himself throughout the entire game, it seemed more interesting if it wasn't a typical Jekyll and Hyde situation. Except here it's just Hyde and another Hyde.
There is no sensible Jackal and there's no real conclusion to the store to either he just gets away with it all and goes on with his day.
Even when you try playing the game with other secondary characters it doesn't alter the ending at all. At least of the best of my knowledge
Gameplay: It's a really standard Sneakin and slash. You play as a little pixelated man going around stabbing other pixelated people. All while avoiding contact with Witnesses, the police and God help you the FBI.
Also bouncers who proved to be more annoying than anybody, but can at least be dealt with it given enough time
It's a fairly nice balance of action and stealth. Moving from one area to the next wiping out targets simultaneously while trying to create something of a combo* score for yourself and seen just what it is you can get away with. It's one of those games where if you design it just right you can wipe everybody out in the matter of a minute or two.
However it becomes extremely frustrating when you get down to only having one or two people left and somebody spots you, gets you arrested or you accidentally die from a trap you set off previously.
Simply because you have to do the entire thing again.
Overall it's a fairly quick and amusing game. It gets a little repetitive at the end but given the simplistic nature of the game overall it's an easy thing to overlook. My only real complaint with the game is sometimes the graphic limitation makes it a little difficult to see your character and you also can't tell when certain characters are behind other items or objects because of the perspective of the layout.
*There's a character you can unlock if you can do a kill counter of 20 people in a row. I don't know how the hell that's possible. You can never get enough people before somebody kicks you down or you just simply run out of bodies. And sometimes a little counter just doesn't work. I think there might have been a way to do this easier back in the day but the game's been altered a few times given that they released it when it was incomplete. So it's possible that the one isn't even unachievable anymore.
