There's something oddly comedic about how everything that George C Scott goes to the either do or see in this film is now easily accessible on the internet.
Even the really brutal snuff film that pops up towards the end. Now that shouldn't be on the internet but it is.
But just the fact that you no longer have to pay exorbitant amount of money to see any of this should really speak to how far we've come.
At least in some regards.
It still looked upon as ''shameful'' that anybody would dare to ether want to pay for sex or make it a profession. Of course we're still arresting people on speculation alone for doing this.
So in a lot of ways we still haven't escaped a lot of the bullshit that takes place at this film.
I mentioned earlier that there was a comedic aspect to how all this can be found on the internet.
And that's about as close as this films going to get to Comedy.
This whole movie is just a scuzzy sleazebag experience what's moments of brutality. As the very straight-laced conservative George C Scott character jumps into a world completely alien to his own in search of his daughter.
A daughter who willingly entered this world just to escape the the world her Father belongs to.
A world that when you look at it with honest eyes becomes more despicable and disgusting than anything you find in a red light district.
It's become so potently obvious and disgusting that films today now depict the George C Scott character as the main villain. The oppressor of the populist who just wants to enjoy life and experience it on their own terms.
And would you look at that; I'm getting off on a tangent again. It's all I can really do with a movie like this.
I could go through and and explain the story but there's just really no point to it. George C Scott's character moves from one slimy location to the next hoping to find some trace of his daughter that the police can't be bothered to find.
In doing so we'll have to break some of his own moral codes just so he can even attempt if you're into this world. And that part of the film's really fun to watch. George C Scott's straitlaced attitude gradually getting shredded away as he tries his upmost to deal with this tragedy that has befallen him.
It's a solid film with a really good cast of characters. And surprisingly tame on the nudity point. You think a movie that was exploring exploitation prostitution another acts of sexuality would have a lot more full frontal nudity. But beyond a few breasts you don't really see anything else. The most skin you'll see on this movie will be in the background on pornographic magazines.
But I really loved about this film is that it doesn't try to give you any sort of moral code. It doesn't depict George C Scott as the good guy, but simply just a man on a mission and whether or not you think any of his morals make sense is purely up to you.
And it doesn't really demonise the smut world either. It does demonises some of the more hardcore people in it and it certainly doesn't make pimps look any good. But when do pimps look go in reality anyways.
Honestly everybody comes out looking kind of bad at the end of this movie.
I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up Hall Williams playing the ridiculously over-the-top character of ''Big Dick Blaque''. It's a short performance but it's absolutely fantastic and goddamn is he not the most solid looking man in the world in that picture.
