In a far-off land a Queen holds court. For various men wish to become her new husband after her current lovers death.
For whoever does this will become the new king of the land.
But it turns out the Queen has no interest in marrying any of them. For all sorts of reasons.
So she decides to take up the advice of an oracle who informs her that it is not marriage, but the arrival of Hercules that will help her kingdom.
But where is Hercules? Why he's back home with his wife and his (supposed) son trying to live an honest life. He wants to live the way mortals do by raising a family and doing whatever people of that ilk do.
He already lives in the extremely wealthy house and presumably has more money or resources than he'll ever need.
But that's only if he decides not to be Hercules anymore.
Alas it's such a task that can't be done.
For even in this simple town The peasants are swimming in with problems.
A group of Lions has assembled and they're attacking the local Shepherds. Hercules had planned to deal with them.
But then his son Xantos decides to step up. Claiming that he wants to deal with the Lions.
He wishes to prove to his father that he can be a real man. That he simply doesn't live in his shadow.
now I should make it clear that Hercules son is in no way super-strong. He's just a regular old guy.
And to make things even worse; Gaia (the Earth goddess) is currently mad at Hercules because of some misguided Antics from one of his former Adventures.
So you just know something horrible is going to happen to this poor kid.
And sure enough he gets mauled by the Lions and the ends up nearly dead.
In fact in some ways he does end up dead. His soul is now stuck in some weird underworld Kingdom far away from where Hercules is.
No it's not her Hades. It's some other random place that Hercules has to travel to.
And in doing so he'll have to re-enact a bunch of stuff that he did from the ''Curse of the Haunted World''. Because they literally just used footage from said movie.
While Hercules is on his little Adventure Gaea's son Anteo decides to impersonate him so you can head off to that Kingdom from the beginning of the movie to become a dictatorial leader after tricking everybody into convincing them that he's Hercules.
Then afterwards he just starts killing people and stealing all their money.
Eventually he let's a bunch of criminals run wild and become the new city guard. Before killing the goddess of the city and then shoving all the innocent population into a big giant pit where they can live out the rest of their days squandering for bits of meat.
Towards the end of the movie Hercules escapes from that Haunted World, comes back to civilisation, fights Antio and destroys the city. Yeah he didn't save it from corruption. He just decided to eliminate the whole thing.
Then he goes back home to live with his family. And his wife who's still alive. That's surprisingly rare in a lot of these Hercules films.
Usually they don't leave his wife alive. Otherwise how can you have him find a new love interest to Pepper the romance fur out the film?
So despite this movie just being a rehash of to previous Hercules movies stuck together in an Unholy Frankenstein's abomination, I kind of enjoyed it.
It's pacing was fairly decent, and the characters are fun to watch.
I almost wish the entire film could have just been the first set piece.
Seven or eight men sitting around a table, each one is the respective king of their land. Trying to debate who's going to marry this woman that clearly has no interest in any of them. It just seems like there be really good political drama there.
Lined up of a bunch of over the top but semi sincere characters.
