You know I've seen the Charlie Brown Halloween show several times now.
But it's only up to this point that I realised these kids are really mean to Linus.
Every one of them screams at him at some point. All because he has the audacity to want to believe in a make belief pumpkin fellow who gives out gifts.
Even Charlie Brown berates him to an extent. Claiming that he's corrupting his sister.
In the great scheme of things it's no more silly than the Easter Bunny or the idea of a small red headed man who guards a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
The Charlie Brown Halloween special still proves to be enjoyable even after 50 years.
I suspect that has to come down to its really weird subject matter. We have Linus waiting for a gift-giving pumpkin, Charlie Brown receiving rocks as trick-or-treating gifts and Snoopy roaming around as a World War 1 fighter pilot.
Last one is kind of weird even by the standards of the day.
World War 1 was over for about fifty years when this came out and now it's been over a hundred years. In a way it's created a kind of Timeless odd enjoyment.
There's no Woodstock in this special. The best of my knowledge he pops up and every other Charlie Brown special revolving around Snoopy, even in the main show.
Doesn't really matter that he's not here; It's just something that I found kind of weird re-watching this.
In fact we're missing a whole whack of characters there's no Peppermint Patty, Marcie, we don't even get Franklin*. It really is the most simplistic of all the Charlie Brown specials. And yet it's probably the most memorable.
*It's possible that Franklin doesn't exist yet. I don't remember when he got introduced in the comic. It's around the same time as this.
