Film Summary DCXXX (Krysař)

I went into this movie cold turkey. To such an extent that I was surprised when the Piper showed up. Yes I forgot that he was actually supposed to be in the movie.
And how can you blame me.
With the weird set up in the dark and fascinating Town being shown to us you forget about the main plot to.

This is an animated film that firmly falls into atmospheric entertainment.
With no technical dialogue (given that the language in the film is fictional) everything is Visual. And it's the best kind have animated film.
That lands it firmly in the great category for me. Any movie that can get by on the visual alone is in a way has achieve cinema to the best of its abilities.

The story seems to be about a small town in the middle of nowhere ruled by overly corrupt people who hoard every bit of money they can and eat and drink in a most gluttonous Style.
This leads to an infestation of rats that are systematically looting and destroying the city from beneath them.
Things become desperate and they're lucky enough to have in their company a man with a particular Talent.
This man can use a small flute which will influence the rats to follow him.
By doing this he can lead them into a river and drowned the entire rat populace without a moment's notice.

But unfortunately it seems that he's killed the wrong population of rats.
For the true plague upon the city was not the rodents but the very people living within it.

These disgusting individuals are not only ungrateful and they refused to offer him his pay which was promised to him upon ridding the town of the rats.
Also they kill his then just acquired girlfriend. A local girl who was being harassed by the most disgusting man in the entire town. Who gets scared off by this Pied Piper and then comes back later drunk out of his mind and seemingly still wanting to ''hook up'' with this woman.
Which leads to her inevitable death and the Pied Piper giving up completely on the town and singing out with his flute yet again. This time attracting the entire towns population and leading them to the same death that befell the rodents before them.

Overall it's a beautifully put together movie. The tone is darkened and dour with little hints of humanity and Hope. It's beautifully designed and phenomenally executed.
The soundtrack is this weird mix of traditional sombre pipe-organ music mixed in with harsh and modern electronica.

It's an absolutely perfect Halloween movie.
