The third and final Story. The only one with a runtime that actually feels like a cinematic film.
And despite its long one time you could have easily made this one the shortest.
There's an American kid named Willis who happens to possess 2 Digimon.
That is unless one of these Digimon mysteriously disappeared in a flower field. Now Willis is left with only the one.
7 years have passed and this seemingly vanished Digimon has returned, only evolved and very upset.
He wants to find his former owner and ends up kidnapping any kid he can find who happens to possess a Digi-device.
And which kids are kidnapped?
Why the entire original cast of Digimon Adventure minus is Hikari and T.K.
with them out of the picture it's up to the Digimon Adventure 02 kids to save the day.
They're contacted via email to get on over to America and find out what's going on with their kidnapped friends.
Somehow they're just able to pick up their things while on vacation and head straight over to whatever part of the states they need to be in (somewhere in Utah to the best of my knowledge or possibly one of the Dakotas).
It's really glossed over how easy it was for them to get to their area but then it doesn't really matter.
The point is is that they're there and we can get to the meat and potatoes of this whole thing which is Willis and Daisuke wandering the American Countryside and making their way to the flower field in hopes that they can convince this mysterious kidnapping Digimon to give their friends back up and noticed that Willis is doing perfectly fine.
Unfortunately for them, said Digimon doesn't recognize Willis in he's older forum.
This leads to a giant escalation in where this mysterious Digimon transports everybody what kind of negative Dimension and then simultaneously de-ages all the kids until he finds out which one is Willis.
However at this point whatever good was left of that former friendly Digimon is now gone and it's only been replaced by kind of dark void that manifest itself as this really freaky and demonic entity of a digimon who has the ability to just crush every single opponent that comes up against him including Ultimate level Digimon.
All seems for not. But then Willis and Daisuke's Digimons are able to connect with a small fragment of the original Digimon that now lives within this dark entity and destroy it (which said good Digimon wishes for them to so).
This is able to finally destroy the dark being and everybody is saved.
It's a little to ''Heart of the cards'' (to pardon my Yu-Gi-Oh terminology) for my liking.
There wasn't really any skill in defeating the monster. It was more of a combination of dumb luck and belief.
Which Digimon does an awful lot of the time anyways, so I'll forgive it.
I still think it would have been cool to see all the Digimon charge together to finally defeat the enemy or finding some sort of clever manipulating trick to doing it.
Just having the two final Digimon evolve using the special golden macguffins that the two main characters have would have been just fine.
But now I'm getting into pedantic and nobody cares.
The point of this movie isn't to see if the kids are going to defeat the evil entity. Of course they are.
You want to see them interact with each other, in this case it's mainly Daisuke and Willis having conversations (and light arguments) getting to know each other. Both acting a little full of themselves. And that's the best part of the whole film.
Daisuke is one part annoying, one part charming and genuinely amusing to watch.
and I found it really fun just how how weird he is with his crush on Hikari. And the TV show he's very clearly smitten with her but he tries to not admit it.
Here there's no pretense at all.
He likes her and he wants to save her from this horrible Shadow realm dimension.
My only real complaint with the movie is we don't get enough time with some of the other Digimon Adventure 02 characters.
In a way I almost wish we got more time with them on vacation.
It would have been fun just to see them with their leisure activities on the beach.
Especially because they're using Tsubumon is a volleyball.
The animation style here isn't quite as nice as the other two films before it. But it still leaks above it show. Also incorporates a lot more of the sounds and facial movements of the cartoon show.
