I've officially run out of live-action Superman movies to watch. I never thought that would happen.
So now I turn my gaze to the animated DC Universe. Which admittedly is far more entertaining than its live-action counterparts.
And there's no exception to the rule here. Superman vs. the Elite is one of the better animated Superman flicks.
Revolving mainly around Superman's morality and rather or not he can keep up in a world that seems to be getting crazier and crazier. Or at least that's the perception.
In reality I don't think the world's gotten any weirder today than it's ever been before.
It's just now we can hear about all the problems in the world and you can look them up at any point you want.
Beforehand either have to get it through hearsay or if you live in a connected area. Maybe they have newspapers or proper gossiping circles.
So you could hear about all the horrible things that have happened for about him in history.
Now with the internet we can see whatever we want whenever we want. And that includes Superman too.
The whole movie supposed to raise this big debate about Superman's place.
Can he change his views or his way of living in the face of these Elite new ''team'' members that show up. Or will he be destroyed by then.
Ultimately the answer is neither. Turns out Superman's morality is the correct way to go.
If you look at the greater DC Universe there would have been no way that The Elite would have been able to survive.
Besides other superhero showing up and to take them down. Other supervillains would have been done it too*.
What would the elite do to a guy likes Doomsday. Even if they act more powerful than Superman and have no aversion to killing, smarter supervillains would just find a way to get rid of them immediately.
And they don't have the natural inclination to keep themselves alive if they've been thrown into an awkward situation where they have to somehow not kill their enemy but get out of a bad place at the same time.
I don't think they'd last half a year.
Not that any of this matters. This whole movie is based off of a comic which was a commentary on a 90 superhero team that was based in edgy coolness and ''we're totally not your granddad's Superman kind of mentality''.
A really dis-interesting group if you ask me.
Say what you will about Superman but he has longevity. And I still think his way of thinking is ultimately the way to go.
You look at all those people who are paranoid about security or they want to defeat the infidels over the ocean or the ones abroad whatever the excuses this week too turn to violence.
And you always notice that these are the same people who end up creating these horrible forces to begin with.
And that's kind of how I feel about the elite as well. They'd end up just killing everybody off in the long run if not each other or they might start creating their own villains just to give himself something to do.
Because they're in it for the thrill of killing, the thrill of attacking, being an all-powerful destructive force.
I don't think Superman would be bothered if he never had to use his powers again a day in his life.
He might miss flying to some degree, but otherwise I think he'd be fairly okay just is living in Metropolis and driving out to Kansas to see his family. He's ultimately a good guy who's only a superhero because the world needs him to be one. He can give it up if he needed to.
It's a good film with good voice acting, decent animation and solid pacing. I tried talking about this movie 20 other freaking times today and couldn't get anywhere. So now I'm done with it.
*Hack that crazy skull guy who can turn people into dust was able to beat them up. He only ended up getting defeated in the end because Superman was there to take the bulk of the attack and was able to tell one of the other members how to take him down. Otherwise they'd be dead
