I didn't think it could be done, but they found a way to make the original Pokemon movie 'Mewtwo Strikes Back' or whatever the hell it was called, actually look good.
And let's be clear about something. The original Pokemon film is not good.
It's a poorly put together, badly pact, confusing little movie.

It's a poorly put together, badly pact, confusing little movie. Whose moral message at the end of it all is fighting is bad.
But this 3D animated Mewtwo reboot is somehow even worse. the animation is choppy and uninspired.
Everything looks over lit and it just looks cheap.
Now the animation in the original film wasn't that good either, but there's something about cheap 2D animation that's able to endear over the years that just can't really be done with 3D.
Especially modern-day 3D which doesn't have any of the technological excuses of its older counterparts rather that be Reboot or the original Toy Story.
The story from what I can gather hasn't been changed. It still involves the creation of the artificial Pokemon Mewtwo and his subsequent escape from his creators, only to then work with Team Rocket. Everything's been simplified somewhat and the voice acting just isn't up to par.
Now In fairness the Japanese version might be better but I wasn't able to see it.
I can compare it to is the original English which at the very least gave the Pokemon movie some much-needed personality.
Unfortunately we don't really have that here and they cut out all the same scenes from the Japanese movie that the original film did too.
So we don't get any back story involving mewtwo and the little girl who is being cloned alongside him creating a bond in their cryosleep.
Ash, Misty and Brock all look relatively the same to their 3D counterparts. Though the 3D animation isn't doing them any favours. Brock gives off a really creepy vibe and I know there's a big running joke about Brock being creepy in the original Pokemon show because he's something of a womanizer. But it always came off as more comedic than anything else.
Here it really does seem creepy and it's just something to do with his lack of eyes and the 3D environment.
That could be a personal bias for me, but I just can't shake it off.
The Pikachu seems well animated. He moves kind of stilted but he didn't have great movement in the original show, so I'll let that slide. He ends up fighting some other Pokemon and they actually switched up what they were from the original film.
As I'm pretty sure Pikachu electrified the crap out of a big old rock which one the game perspective shouldn't be able to do anything. But then Pikachu's Thunderbolt habe always been a bit inconsistent with their power.
Sometimes they can blow up an entire town and other times it can barely light up a bulb.
Anyways it's about at this point when I decided to give up on the Pokemon movie.
I barely have enough ambition to complete the original film and this one's just zapping any will right out of me.
So I turned it off and decided to cruise Netflix for another 3D show. And what I found was ''Barbie's Life in the Dreamhouse''.
A show about Barbie and her ever-expanding Entourage of friends family and surprisingly intelligent pets.
They prance about a mythical area of Malibu mainly talking about accessories or baking cupcakes. Occasionally running for high political positions.
It's kind of funny that the Barbie show has far better 3D animation than the Pokemon movie.
And I don't just say that as a joke.
It legitimately looks better.
It has a better models, everybody moves a heck of a lot better, which is doubly funny as they're all dolls and they purposely move a bit still just to mimic the style of their doll like counterparts and overall the show is just better written with more energy.
There's also a robot that resembles HAL 9000 that lives inside Barbie's Closet.
You think it'd be a sad life but the closet is proven to be the biggest place in the entire world.
Also I'd like how the show keeps making fun little references to all of Barbies Oddball professions.
There isn't a job this woman hasn't add at some point. They'll be sure to bring it up in a plot whenever applicable.
Rather that be her as the president the United States (God how I wish that was true would be in a far better spot).
Or even something as mundane as an airplane stuartist.
Honestly the Barbie shows oddly fun. It's got that very lacks attitude to it and some of the stories can last as little as three minutes. So it just moves along at a ridiculous pace.
It kind of reminds me of that 'Sonic Boom' show only has better dialogue.
