Film Summary DCCXIV (Escape from the 'Liberty' Cinema)

So this is an odd Little Gem of a movie.
It takes place at what can only be described as the tail of the tails end of communist Poland.

Which means you get to see an entirely ''Newish'' Perspective in Polish Cinema. In this regard, it's the ability to make a film where you can have blatant swearing, sexual themes, intermixed with commentaries belittling the censor progress without having to hide it under veneer of conservatives Communists sensibilities.

Or to put it in a less asinine way. A kind of spoof movie on old polish communist Cinema.

The story revolves around this guy whose job it is to overlook movies and then adjust them for the sensibilities of the local government.

But he's having a hell of a time of it, as the screening of the movie seems to change from audience to audience.
It's supposed to be a film about hospital drama.
But the actors in said drama are reacting to the crawds that are watching them.
For instance if you're smoking a cigarettes; they might yell at you to put it out. Or if somebody falls asleep; they might berate them for not liking their acting, or telling them to head home thinking they're drunk.
And the audience is having a field day at this as they think it's either some sort of gimmick or incredibly elaborate ruse made for their entertainment.
But it all becomes more serious as people discover that the people within this movie might in fact be existing within their own unique little world.
And they seem to be peering out beyond the cinema screen to try and talk with these people.
At one point our main character enters into this world and becomes part of the filming environment.
He's even harassed by the people in the movie for trying to erase or alter their scenes.
There's actually quite a bit you can dive into with this film, and it was a pretty interesting watch.
It got a bit slow at times and I think some of that may be a cultural divide or possibly just translation problems.
But it's hard to say as the movie might be purposely trying to be confusing in the first place.

It's worth of watch if you can find it. There's certainly nothing else like it out there.
I guess you could say there's a movie like ''Last Action Hero'' Has a lot of similarities to it.

Both movies involve their main characters stepping into the film world only to then become part of the experience and try to make their ways out again.
Although that might be the only similarity between them.

There's this weird possessions subplot that also happens during this movie in-where some of the people in the ''real world'' start singing out as if they're in a musical. Before falling down to a coma and it's supposed to have been influenced by the film that they were just watching.
Or at least I think that's what's supposed to happen.

I stated earlier I think this movie is trying to be a little artistic just for its own case and it's too bad in a way, as it doesn't have to try and be weird.
It's already got an interesting premise. They could have just ran with that and left all the secondary singing weirdos or possible ludicrousy caused by the moon out of the movie.

Give it a watch if you want. It's on Netflix funny enough.
It's a great reminder that if you can dig deep enough or you're lucky just to find the Oddball thing pop up (in their recommended section) You can actually watch some pretty unique movies on Netflix. Granted you'll have to dig through 15 km of generic crap.

I wonder how much of the plot I got wrong in this movie.
I watched it well over a month ago and I suspect I'm missing a whole whack of things.
And this is why you should never take someone else's opinion as your own when it comes to movies.
You have no idea what they may remember or not remember from the thing they're talking about.
See the things yourself, make your own opinions.
