Film Summary DCCXV (Harold Shipman: Doctor Death)

I always feel a little conflicted with movies like this. There's something about taking a modern day tragedy and glorifying it up for a cinematic experience.
It's got to be heart-wrenching for any of the victims of this horrible ''doctor''.

But at the same time, one of the best ways to get across the true misery of a person's actions is throw the art of storytelling.
I can guarantee Saving Private Ryan has done more for getting people's perspectives on the second world war than most history books ever would. Even if said movie is inaccurate.

Anyways all of that was Irrelevant for me. As I wasn't aware of who this doctor was.
I knew about a crazy guy in England back in the early 2000s. I wasn't aware this was the same one. So I got the benefit of watching a surprisingly entertaining movie with a creepy killer doctor vibe without having to be hampered down by the real life consequences the people are actually affected by this.

The film starts out with this innocent small-town English ambiance as people go about their daily business and get appointments with their local doctor.
Things are shown to be incredibly problematic from the start as the doctor starts injecting various elderly people (mainly women) incredibly High overdoses of medical heroin.

People start to die by unusually high numbers and one of the family members of the local morgue become suspicious, due to the small size of their local practice.
So they launched a small investigation and come up mainly empty-handed.
The doctor goes on for yet another year. Killing more innocent people and covering it up.
His methods of cleaning the crime are simplistic at best, but because of his privileged position he's never questioned on it.

It's only after a dodgy fake will incident and an investigation brought on by an insurance company, that things start to spiral out of control. The local police are brought in to look into this Insurance Scandal and uncovering a world of; Bad Medicine, computer data manipulation, extreme negligence and drug abuse buy a man who's supposed to be a Cornerstone of their small Society.
The second half of the film is field of interrogations. And it's here that our two main leads really get the shine as the acting becomes more focused.

Overall it's a really good movie. Great acting, solid script, convincing characters. The scenery changes just enough throughout the film as to not make you lose interest.
