Where do we even start with this movie.
How about the poster.
This still image of Ed Harris dressed like in Arthurian mythical Knight sitting upon a ridiculous souped-up motorcycle.
It conjured up images of a Mad Max in medieval Europe.
Imagine the movie like Road Warrior only replace the deserts with the English or French Countryside the souped-up leather bound motorcycle gangs are now Knights of the Round Table before Ming acts of chivalry however that would be depicted with a motorcycle and jousting battles while engaging in great military conflicts with who-knows-what. Perhaps a motorcycle themed group of Roman soldiers. There's so many different ways you could take this premise.
Fights for oil and water replaced with battles for chivalry and Conquest.
A 50s style King Arthur flick with motorcycles in place of horses.
But instead we get this weird circus movie about a group of hippie bikers following a borderline delusional man with dreams of make believe chivalry and a rebellious attitude against any and all established Society.
Rather it be the police or businessmen looking to make a couple of bucks off of their unique sideshow.
You start to wonder. What is the point of this movie?
Are we here to see jousting tournaments between a bunch of bikers in Knights uniforms or is it a character drama revolving around the relationships of this close-knit group of friends having to deal with each other's outbursts and Endeavours in this
hostel world.
We've got police corruption, hillbilly Hicks, really sleazy businessman. A break off in the group resulting in this weird photoshoot and character sitting around campfire discussing the morality of the world.
It's two and a half hours long and it is just filled to the brim with every random thing you can think of.
The motorcycle jousting is really well put together and very extreme and it's violence.
People are getting flipped off of bikes, smashing into pillars of wood and nearly crashing into the crowds as they zip around in this tight-knit field of artificial gravel and hunks of motorcycle debris.
The amount of injuries to all the stuntmen must have been ridiculous during the filming of this movie.
These parts really do hold it all together.
It almost feels like a sports movie where you got your high and low points of character development followed up by high-stakes action.
Overall the film is a little too long and the last 10 minutes could have easily been cut with little to nothing lost.
But it's still an overall fascinating experience and even in that last 10 minutes there's a scene where a police officer gets the shit kicked out of him and it's just the best.
There's apparently an edited down version that was played in selective areas. Perhaps it's the better version to watch as it might help with some of the pacing.
