Film Summary DCCLXXXI (The Blackout)

It's a military action shooter disguised as an Apocalypse movie.

In the slightly distant future (where everything resembles Blade Runner) the greater Moscow area becomes the only inhabited place on Earth. After a strange attack that simultaneously destroys all technological and biological matter.
The remanence of the Russian army are sent out to investigate and retake their former territories that had been affected by this natural disaster.
In doing so they'll encounter hordes of seemingly mindless humans and animals attacking them in a single centralized position.
Ripping them apart and annihilating anybody who dares step out of their safety zone.
It's discovered that this was all a prelude to a massive alien attack by a silly looking group of aliens. A genetic predecessor to humans.
That humans themselves were a part of this Invasion strategy that started some 200,000 years ago. It seems we were used as a weapon to annihilate the pre human civilizations that existed on Earth.
Which means we've got ancient alien conspiracies in our movie.
They're not really a focal point of anything, but they always stick out when I see them.

Anyways most of the film is just groups of military men going for around different Russian towns and villages getting in fire fights with what I can only describe as mind-controlled zombieman and having one good battle leading up to a garrison of attack Bears on a military Outpost.
The characters are all basic movie stand ins and it gets difficult to determine one group from another.
There's this one kid who possesses psychic powers because of his proximity to the biological attack and the safety zone he happened to be staying in.
This gives him the ability to see one of the head aliens whose controlling the hordes of leftover humans who plans to strike an attack against Moscow the last human Outpost.
He's almost a character in this movie.
I thought he was going to join in this big epic battle against the big bad alien at the end of the film. But he gets blown up by a load of missiles halfway through the film. Once the ''bad'' alien figures out that he can locate his location via his telepathy.

If you want to see action military set pieces of specialized men blowing the ever-living crap out of gun-toting zombies then this movie is right up your alley.
If you're expecting in-depth character development or even just the movie exploring more futuristic aspects of society within the next 20 years.
You'll have to look somewhere else.
