Film Summary DCCXCVI (Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny)

Oh how I loved this movie when I was younger.

It was one of my absolute favourite go to's.

Jack Black and Kyle glass just hanging out and making stupid jokes.

It was a great low stakes entertaining rump of film.

In a lot of ways it still is.

Though I have to admit some of the humour just isn't in my bag anymore and the actual structure of the movie is a bit lacking at points.

It feels more like a TV film where you just watch one Act take place after another and half of the scenes don't have anything to do with the other half.

Like Jack Black eating a bunch of mushrooms and getting high. There's literally no point to it.

It's just there for visual.

And me oh my, some of the visuals in this movie are really cheap. Which I get it. It's a stupid rock and roll comedy.

I'm not expecting high budget or anything. But the ADR is really badly put together.

Your a rock and roll flick and your two main leads are literally the singers of the respective songs.

I think they could have connected that a little better.

Still everything said; It was mildly fun to watch. The music's still pretty entertaining and that rock and roll scene at the end where they're fighting Satan is still fantastic.

I paused the movie just to turn my speakers up.

I wish they either would have gone more extreme movie. Having more outlandish scenes like demon fighting or weird Espionage fighting. Like a straight-up spoof movie or have a more character-driven rock and roll band film. Where it's just these two low-life guys trying to create their own unique sound and maybe get out there in the world.

But then I just be asking for a film we've seen a hundred times done by a hundred other people.

So maybe 'Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny' is perfectly fine for what it is.

A Strange little buddy rock and roll film that has elements of Satan and an over-the-top car chase with absolutely no purpose or progression to the story.
