It's vulgar, it's juvenal.
And it's needlessly too long.
It's the Drawn Together movie.
Part of me wants to be really harsh on the film. For it's unoriginal jokes, nonsensical storytelling and mediocre comedy*.
But how can I get mad at that when the entire show is based around the same premise.
It's too long. That's the only real complaint. This movie feels like an overly stretched out episode.
Also the animation is kind of crummy and that's because of budgetary reasons.
The original show was made with more money and more effort. Where as the film had to cut back significantly and padded out with longer scenes.
Really the only part of this that looks good was the first five minutes when they're in The Flintstones Bedrock town and that's all down to the lighting effect.
Otherwise it just looks like a rushed episode of Drawn Together with some weird Southpark imagery thrown in for good measure.
Feels kind of weird having a movie poking fun at South Park given that it just doesn't feel that prevalent anymore; even in 2010.
I do admit there was something kind of funny about Hillary Clinton with an overly large size of testicles. It sums up self Park in every way you can think of it.
But really this movie exists more as a conclusion to the Drawn Together series which was cancelled after its third season.
Supposedly it just cost too much to make and given that the show was never that amazing to begin with it's kind of amazing that it lasted three seasons to begin with.
Also there's a lot of humour revolving around the fact that the movie is not censored like the TV show. And that would be more funny except the version of the show I was watching was unedited and purposely uncensored.
Therefore the joke didn't really land quite as well.
I still get what they're going for but it just doesn't work out.
If you like drawn together you'll probably like this movie probably already seen it. And it's entertaining enough for what it is getting the original voice cast back together and having them all do Looney Tunes things with tons of vulgarity just for the sake of it.
In some ways I almost wished they would have just dropped out of the main story to begin with. Just have the whole show be complete chaos.
Going from one skip to the next.
They had episodes like that and they were often the most funny.
Really if you want a longer Forum story of Drawn Together I'd recommend the two-parter series where half of the gang is stuck in a car van at the mall.
Or just watch the episode revolving around cereal mascots.
*The comedy in the movie feels mediocre. Like they weren't making as many good zingers as they did in the actual cartoon show.
